The Dress

November 25th, 2009 @ 4:53 pm by Mrs. Nachos

A week after we were engaged, I wanted to go dress shopping and I had the week off. Perfect!

I rounded up my best girls and headed to David’s Bridal. My mom, my future mother-in-law, my sister, my best friend and I met at the store, which was not an easy feat since all but one live way up north. Props to them for making the trek for me!

I had printed out dresses that I had liked on their website which apparently is a good thing when you walk in there. We signed in and I was told that although you may have your favorites from pictures, no one ever buys the first dress they try on. Apparently, I’m the exception. I put on the first dress they brought which was one of my top 2, and immediately I got “oohs” and “ahhs” from my girls. It was David’s Bridal T8076.

Honestly, every dress that I tried on after the first was given an “it’s OK, but I still like the first one better.” At the end of the day, I ended up buying the first dress I tried on. Go figure.

I left happy, but within a few weeks, I was waking up every morning and the first thought in my head was that the dress wasn’t THE ONE. I would actually pull up the pictures of it on the computer in Microsoft Paint and draw in a sweetheart neckline and wished it had a train. It was annoying me to the point where 2 weeks ago, I called up my friend and told her that the dress just wasn’t quite right. She had been in the same boat a year before and had exchanged hers for her dream dress, so she completely understood. We actually went to a different David’s Bridal that same day to see what they had that was more like what I was picturing in my head. And after trying on 20+ dresses and almost losing all hope, I found it: David’s Bridal ML9521.

I had to have it special ordered and they told me it wouldn’t come until Thanksgiving, but it came in 2 months early! And you’d better believe I drove 30 miles after a full day of work to pick that sucker up.

Did you have buyers remorse when it came to your dress? Did you re-shop for “the one” or fall back in love with your first choice?

That dress looks gorgeous on you, Nachos! The first one was lovely, too, but I love the sweetheart neckline :D

Its the one with the keyhole back. I think I am just having anxiety because I had to special order mine and i havent seen it in a couple months so I dont really remember it :(

What I plan to do is when my order comes in I want to book an appt to try that dress on as well as other. Im either going to find a better dress OR remember why i fell in love with my order !!

Anyone else go through this??

love the second dress.
I tried on that first one as well….couldn’t put my finger on it, but it just didn’t work (although it was tempting because it was so cheap!)

Great dress!! I love seeing beautiful dresses from David’s!!!! You look beautiful!

I haven’t even taken the plunge with dress shopping yet for that very reason. I’ve got 7+ months to go and I’m just sure I’ll change my mind!

I got married 2 months ago and wore that exact same dress! I LOVED the back and the sweetheart neckline, and thought it was very flattering to my curves. I got so many compliments on it!! I had tried on the “designer” version at a dress boutique and loved it, but then I saw the same dress at Davids. You look great in it!

I also prefer the second dress. I’m so happy you got what you truly wanted! It’s so tricky, this wedding dress business.

How does it work when you change your mind? Do you have to pay for both dresses, or did you catch it in time to get a full refund on the first one?

Your dress is beautiful!
Were they understanding at DB? Did they transfer your deposit?

@million: and @Future Mrs. Martin: the first dress was half as much as the second, so when I exchanged, I just had to pay the difference. Easy peasy!

The second one is very pretty. The first one was nice, but didn’t have any of the special touches the second one has. Glad your buyer’s remorse was so easy to fix!
