A true theatre geek at heart, I love any kind of performance and spend most of my time researching old productions in dank library archives. When not in the library, I love music (punk rock, bluegrass, and everything in between), design in all forms, any reality TV show on Bravo (especially those that feature housewives or sharp knives), beer and wine from Oregon, and exploring the outdoors. My fiance and I are true best friends, and he inspires me every day. After a long and happy dating relationship, we’ve decided to tie the knot in the mountains of North Carolina, our home state. Napkingate: Redux. (And Some Straws!)

November 27th, 2009 @ 6:32 pm by Miss Snow

Houston, we may have a napkin solution.

After hearing from all you sensible folks (It is totally just a napkin!), I think we’re going for the napkin ring/pouf combo with rented napkins*.

This decision came about after I happened upon a beautiful Savannah Wedding in my homegirl, Martha’s (Wait, is that disrespectful to Martha? My pretend-mentor, Martha?) latest Weddings magazine. Look at this lovely napkin set-up:

OK, I love this look. Then, I happened upon FreeSpirit Fabric’s Pop Garden line (”Pop Garden” is total synonym for “Hip Farm”, right?). These summery fun fabrics are perfect for our wedding, but also loud (which is why I like them), so to avoid bleeding-eye syndrome, I think they’ll look best in napkin rings as opposed to napkins. See the entire range here. Here are the patterns I like the best:

Top them off with a little tomato tissue paper pouf in the place of the button, and I’ve solved our napkin drama! Woo hoo!

Now to perseverate (I love that word!) on cocktail straws. (Have you all seen these? Aren’t they so cute?? I really want the red ones!)

Anyone else have wedding epiphanies lately? Share your “aha” solutions!

*This decision subject to change at any moment. :)

So no ironing 100+ napkins? Bummer.

Those designs are beautiful! So bright and cheerful!

@KMSull: I know! I’d have probably enjoyed the calm process of ironing all those…maybe…:)

Wow, floral and pattern are really in right now! Love the look. It would be fun, and busy, to mix two patterns together!

So pretty! And PLEASE tell me you bought those straws! 50 for $3? That expense can totally be justified :) lol

Love the straws! And I think the second fabric would be perfect for a “hip farm” wedding. Love this solution!

I think this is a great idea. I was kinda wondering if you were really going to make that many napkins. I think the rings are a lot more doable. Here is a link from the e-magazine Utterly Engaged that shows an easy way to make your own napkin rings. Enjoy.

Very cute…I think a mix of the fabrics would look awesome together. I vaguely considered for about 2 seconds making my own napkins and then quickly decided against it. So I’m on the hunt for a napkin ring idea, or possibly just a cute fold to incorporate a menu into. We’ll see.
