Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

I am a self professed “WBJ” (Wedding Blog Junkie). My blog feed list was as long as the browser is tall. I would catch up with my favorite (and there were a lot) blogs daily. I was a virtual sponge of all things related to wedding inspiration. My Salty Pretzel counterpart called it my “wedding p0rn” and I was definitely addicted.

Define Wedding P0rn: “Wedding stories and pictures are like p0rn for those planning their own nuptials.” – Ariel of Offbeat Bride

Confessions of a Wedding Blog Junkie (WBJ) : wedding resources 1 1

Looking back I was on a crash course for Wedding Inspiration Hangover (WIH). When WIH set in I fought against it, trying to force myself to stay up on my wedding blog reading. Ultimately I reduced my wedding reading to just Weddingbee* and an occasional check in on some of the DIY blogs. I felt like saying “enough is enough already! How many more ideas can my little brain hold?”

Mr Pretzel is more than happy to get me back from my “wedding p0rn” addiction I get a little sad when I see all the unread blog posts in my reader. But I feel pretty confident that I’ve got enough inspiration for now to keep me going. I recognize that as a recovering WBJ, I need to limit my consumption of online inspiration.

Are you a WBJ? Did your SO mind you being a WBJ? Have you encountered WIH?

*Note: Weddingbee has been the only exception to my WIH. I heart this place!

I definitely feel overloaded at this point. I’ve stopped looking at aspirational blogs for the most part (like SMP) just because I’m past that point in my planning and don’t need to be derailed.

I still look at blogs with a DIY angle too - but besides Weddingbee, that’s it. Hangover is definitely a fitting description for the feeling.

Yes! I definitely experienced that without even really realizing it! I would check about 10 wedding blogs daily (sometimes multiple times a day weddingbee ) and suddenly one day in the middle of my routine, I thought “ugh, do I have to keep reading this”?
I almost panicked though, because I wondered where I’d get inspiration! But it turns out that when I don’t check those blogs so often, I can come up with my own! Now I check in on them occasionally if I have time and want to, instead of forcing myself to read through them all.
Of course, as you said, Weddingbee is the exception - still check here multiple times daily (I may have a refresh problem) :)

Have you thought about using Google Reader? You can subscribe to all your favorite blogs and read them all in one place as they update! It saves you the hassle of checking them each individually for updates. It is prettttyyyy awesome!

Yep! I’ve stopped looking for anything inspirational. Been there, done that, need to stick with the current plan! Now, I just follow certain brides on their journeys because I’m into their stories!

I definitely went through this phase, too! It’s hard to get over it because you can still get “life” inspiration from wedding blogs–decoration, party planning, cooking, etc. I’m a Weddingbee junkie even 2.5 months after my wedding!

I definitely feel this way! I was reading 40 blogs a day when my FI told me I had a wedding p0rn addiction. I cut my Google Reader to just a few blogs: WB and 5 personal blogs that I follow. It has saved a lot of time and I feel much less frazzled.

I don’t really have much to say on this subject becuase I seem to be really bad at finding wedding blogs to look at! I LOVE wedding bee, but I haven’t found much more than that.

I was hoping you could possibly suggest some wedding blogs–specificaly the DIY ones.

Thanks!

I was so the same! I’ve since cut back, and mainly read bride-blogs now. I have enough fancy inspiration stuff to deal with already. :p

Google Reader is definitely my guilty pleasure. I get about 400+ articles a day, one third of which are wedding related. I have a couple other favorite blogs to add to the list of suggestions for Sarah:

i only subscribe to a small handful of weddingblogs because a lot of them didn’t have anything for me. i’m not having a super fancy wedding so the more opulent reads [except for a few] i don’t look at. plus, there’s really only so many articles i can read on centerpieces! whew.

I only read weddingbee! With the very occasional drive-by of Snippet and Ink and Style Me Pretty. I got overwhelmed and said “enough already!”

I am so there! I used to search for hours but now all that just overloads me and keeps me from moving forward. I still check in with the “inspiration” blogs now and again but I am basically sticking to the story type blogs where I am invested in the person that is getting married, not just the stuff that they made or thought was cool.

oh, me too! I’ve taken a few blogs out of my google reader and I skim mostly for inspiration pictures because now that I’m married I hope to just be able to help other brides out with ideas & resources. But a few months before the wedding I was so worn out that I didn’t want to look at another picture. it’s a strange phenomenon, being addicted to wedding p0rn.

Ohh… I am a complete WBJ. I’ve definitely cut back & I mostly only read blogs here & blogs from girls in the hive. Seriously… think back. What did we look at & do before we started planning/researching wedding stuff?!

I’ve been all about wedding blogs for the past 3 years or so. But now, I only have eyes (and time) for Weddingbee. Oh, and the occasional peek at Snippet & Ink and Style Me Pretty just for pretty pictures. : )
