Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)

A Taste for the Finer Things : wedding reception Stfpair

Swarovski “Crystalline” Toasting Flutes, Pair $390 at Macy’s

I know it’s really a ridiculous, luxurious waste (I don’t know how much money we would have to have before I wouldn’t feel that way), but how great are these toasting flutes? I don’t think I even know a champagne special enough to drink out of these… but I hope to someday. ;)

Now these are a lot more reasonable toasting flutes, even if they’re not quite so “fancy”:

A Taste for the Finer Things : wedding reception Ltfpearl

Lenox “Jubilee Pearl” Toasting Flutes, Set of 2 $58 at Macy’s

I’m thinking of adding these to our registry so that we might have at least one nice keepsake—just one thing that isn’t entirely useful!—from our wedding. They sort of coordinate with our china pattern, and I think the pearls in the stem would be fun with some nice “bubbly”. Hey, why not?

What item or items are you turning into keepsakes after your wedding? Will you display it/them in a prominent way in your home?

I fell hard for the Swarovski flutes when I saw them in person for the first time last October. A very sweet friend has purchased them for me as my wedding gift (she actually bought them over a year ago before we were even engaged). I am so excited. I love all things that sparkle!!

I love those. In fact, I wasn’t planning on getting fancy flutes for the toasts at the wedding, and these made me rethink that. Damn.

I registered for a Vera Wang cake cutting set that I am HOPING someone will buy us before the wedding so we can use it to cut our cake :)

@10.10.10: Lucky girl! I actually haven’t seen them in person… I am avoiding them to stop the Want Monster. ;)

@Gilneas: Sorry! :) We actually decided not to get a special cake cutting set since we don’t really eat cake on any kind of regular basis, but we do love champagne on occasion so we might get some later use from the flutes.

I bought a really cute set on Etsy for about $10. I love them and they didn’t cost a fortune!

I knew my grandmother was giving us Waterford service for 8, so I registered for the matching champagne flutes. We’re self-admitted Champagne snobs and it was so wonderful to have Waterford to toast with at the wedding, and several times after :)

I found these flutes at TenThousandVillages. I love that they’re fair trade and from India: http://www.tenthousandvillages.com/plated-brass-champagne-flute

looking at those side by side… i am convinced they are the same thing haha. Maybe I don’t have an eye for finer things?

@GeorgiaPeach, @CorgiTales: I know, they look so similar, right? I never saw the Swarovski ones in person, but the Lennox bases (where the stem and bowl meet, I mean) don’t look like they’re attached in the most seamless way ever. They’re also filled with little beads instead of crystals.

I’ve seen the Swarowski in person and they are georgeous. They have a martini glass with a crystal base too! But so expensive, I would be afraid I would drop the glass.

My mom gave us a beautiful pair of champagne flutes as a wedding present. We have them displayed in a china case in our dining room.

The second (cheaper!) pair are the ones we’re using for our toasting flutes at our beach themed wedding. I think the pearls work well for it. I love them and I think the quality is great. The Swarovski ones are gorgeous too though!

Just love those flutes. I also had those at my wedding and my husband and I still use them at times.

Wow, that Macy’s pair is not only a steal at that price, but right now they are on sale for even cheaper…$39.99!

Very cute, and from the picture they really do look VERY similar. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

My mom loves loves loves to buy people the toasting flutes off their registries. She’ll literally stalk them til they register for them!

@Lillindy: I know! They are on sale pretty much every other day. :) If we don’t end up getting these as a shower gift, I’ll probably pick them up for us pre-wedding myself the next time they are on sale.

@KMSull: That’s a great idea. I’ve recently taken to buying wine glasses and a bottle of wine as a shower gift, but I’ll be on the lookout for toasting flutes and a nice bottle of champagne as well. :) I don’t actually think I’ve ever seen toasting flutes on a registry before!

The Swarovski ones are incredible, but way too expensive! I like your alternative.

We got toasting glasses as a gift from my mom … we didn’t even register for them so it was a fun surprise. And now we plan to toast with them on our anniversary every year!

And man those Swarvoski ones are gorgeous! But the second ones still look beautiful and much more reasonable!
