I woke up at 6 AM on our wedding day. I couldn’t sleep any longer. It was time to bask in the fact that today was our wedding day! I loved our engagement so much and all of the planning that went into our day. When we set our wedding date I thought our engagement was SO long (15 months) but half-way through, I loved it so much I could have been engaged for a year longer. But now the time to be a bride had come. I fluffed out a few last minute poms, had some breakfast, printed out some extra timelines (which I think no one held onto, myself included) and waited anxiously for the first thing on the list: Our hair appointments.

On a recent excursion to downtown Burlington, I stepped into a local discount wholesale store. I have driven past the Big!Lots store many times, and have always laughed at the incredibly ridiculous name! There are no Big!Lots stores in Canada, so I was curious as to what I might find there. What I found was everything! The store had everything from furniture to birthday cards. It also had a large selection of vases, picture frames, and glass containers. Being a full out bridezilla, I started wondering if I could find anything there that I could use for the wedding. I found something, indeed!
Like so many others before me, I’ve decided to take on a few wedding DIY details. And by a few, I mean the following: a slew of tulle pomanders, 120 linen napkins, our entire invitation suite from scratch, and all wedding-related paper (including but not limited to): programs, escort cards, candy jar signage, photo booth signage, glassine envelopes for guest favors, and possibly other things as well. You know… just a couple of things. Easy peasy.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Once we were within a year of the wedding, I wanted to start thinking more seriously again about the actual wedding planning, and where, exactly, we wanted our budget to go.
Other than the venue and catering, which we took care of early, things that were really important to us were the paper, the dress, the photography and the music. I couldn’t care less about the flowers and other decor. So, I had to keep that in mind when I determined where to spend our money.
1. The paper. I know Mr. Spaniel would send invitations by email if he could, and I understand the sentiment… but I love stationery. I just really enjoy the feel of fine paper with high quality printing, and I think this is something I want to make sure we do well. We could spend quite a bit of money here (I’ve seen invitation suites for thousands of dollars), or very little, but my goal was to get 100 letterpress invitations/envelopes, RSVP cards/envelopes, and thank you notes/envelopes for under $750. Better yet, under $600. I had no idea how I was going to do that, but I suspected it would involve coming up with my own design and getting most pieces letterpressed, while getting some others digitally offset. Blah.

Our photographer Tec Petaja’s strong suit is taking pictures of couples. He’s extremely good at taking pictures of everything but he has a way with direction that puts a couple at ease. Or, at least he did for us. After our First Look, we trudged into a nearby field to get some portraits of us. I gave up on holding my dress out of the sticks and let it gather what it may.

Mr. Cheeseburger and I both love funfetti cake with rainbow chip icing. In my opinion, it is the. best. cake. ever. Hands down.

If I had my way, I would be DIYing our funfetti wedding cake, but Cheeseburger Mom put the brakes on that idea.

Thanks to my Trail Mixa-licious FMIL, we recently celebrated our engagement with a brunch down in Miami, since that is where Mr TM is from. Even though a cold kept me from enjoying the Miami weather the day before, nothing could stop me from having fun at this party.
The party was seriously above and beyond anything I expected. I’d heard rumors of the awesome parties the Trail Mix In-Laws had thrown beforehand but had never actually witnessed one first-hand. However, I can truthfully say now that when the Trail Mixers throw a party, they throw a party! We celebrated at the Westview Country Club in North Miami with about 100 (!!) people in attendance and the talented Sue Chase of Chase Music and Entertainment made sure it was planned out in great detail and ran smoothly.
Although the space was beautiful on its own, we lucked out because there had been a wedding there the night before and the club let left the decorations up for us, so all the beautiful, white drapings were free!
Here’s a shot of the room, all set up, before guests started arriving. Tre gorgeous, no?

I am so excited to share our engagement photos with the Hive! After much deliberation over my outfit as well as the man’s, only to have our engagement shoot rescheduled due to crazy weather, we were able to finally have our shoot with our photographer, Erica Lyn.
Being in DUMBO, of course we had to take pictures by the Brooklyn Bridge:

I’m always thrilled to welcome another fellow Bay Area bee to the hive! Please join me in welcoming our newest bee, Miss Cola!

About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiance, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I enjoy reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiance and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
We wanted to be traditional on our day and not see each other until I walked down the aisle. We decided that on the day of the wedding we really wanted to relax, hang out with our friends and family, and have no stress.
Mr. AC decided that he, his groomsmen, his sister and a few other friends would hike at one of our most favorite locations in the mountains of NC. The place is called the Hebron Rock Colony and it is absolutely the most beautiful place in the world. Mr. AC really wanted to Skype but I nixed that plan! From all accounts the hike was great and they had a wonderful time.
Well, folks, this is it. My final honeymoon recap post. It’s been fun sharing our experiences in Europe with all of you. Be sure and stay tuned for a post on travel tips and, of course, the wedding recaps!
When I left you last, I said that our ferry from Naxos was heading back to Santorini–what was that all about? Well, we had booked our ferry from Santorini to Athens before leaving for our honeymoon. Then we decided, while in Santorini, to take a side trip to Naxos, which meant we had to get back to Santorini in time to catch our ferry to Athens. We ended up backtracking a bit by going from Naxos to Santorini to Athens because Naxos is actually in between Santorini and the mainland. In fact, our ferry from Santorini to Athens stopped in Naxos on the way. In theory, we could have just stayed in Naxos and tried to board the ferry when it arrived there, but we weren’t sure how the system worked and didn’t want to take the risk of not being able to board our ferry. So, back to Santorini it was, but only long enough for a quick bite to eat. Then it was on to Athens!
We only had two full days in this city, so we tried to fit in as much sightseeing as possibly, even though we were incredibly worn out at this point in the trip. Our first morning in Athens, we woke up and headed a couple of blocks from our hotel to Hadrian’s Arch.

This summer Mr. Pudding and I had the pleasure of going to Poland for two separate wedding celebrations. During our wedding marathon, I learned a lot about Polish weddings that I didn’t know before. I have only been to one wedding in Poland before this adventure, and even though I have been to dozens of Polish-Canadian weddings, I found that the real thing can be quite different! I hope to incorporate some of these newfound elements into our wedding, but some of them just wouldn’t work in the North American setting.
(All of these pictures were taken on my camera by either Mr. Pudding, myself, or a relative, and are a combination of the two wedding celebrations that we attended in Poland)
The wedding day starts with the bride and groom standing outside of the bride’s house welcoming guests and well-wishers.

I sent them off with a kiss and tear. Since they’ve made their way by land and sea to our guests, it’s now time to introduce them to you!
The outer envelope serves as the preview, if you will. We had planned on my grandmother addressing them, but for various reasons I ended up testing one myself. Not half bad, so I went for the whole shebang and addressed them all myself. I’m hoping they say: “We’re elegant with a home-spun flavor.”
