Fabric flowers seem to be up-and-comers in the wedding world (see Miss Chick, Miss Dachshund and Miss Moonbeam), but I swear I’ve been working on this DIY project since I got engaged last August.
When I saw this idea in a past Martha Stewart magazine, I knew that it would be a beautiful addition to our wedding!

I loved these fabric flowers as escort cards, and wanted to make some of my own. Unfortunately, Martha was a tease… she gave the idea, but no tutorial. Thank goodness for the Internet! I found a tutorial for fabric flowers on a wonderful blog called Wise Craft (find detailed instructions and templates here).
Here is the process through my eyes:

The closer I lurk to the big 3-0, the more comfortable I am with admitting aloud those things I cannot do, I’ve never been able to do, and I likely will never be able to do. I see it like this: if your twenties are all about trying new things, then surely when you reach the Dirty Thirties you can become curmudgeonly complacent at those things at which you suck, and it’s okay. For me, such things include:

Don’t look at me like that, Martha!

What’s the biggest lesson your SO has taught you? What’s the biggest lesson you’ve taught your SO?
Mrs. Mouse - The Dude has taught me that sometimes it’s not worth it to get mad over the little things. He is very laid back and generally believes that things “always work out in the end”. Call it karmic synergy, call it lazy—either way it’s a peaceful way to live. He’s also taught me to appreciate football and different styles of music (like blues and indie rock) that I didn’t pay as much attention to before I met him.
I’ve taught him the importance of eating healthy and getting exercise. I’ve also helped him to branch out and try things that he didn’t think he liked, such as traveling and eating sushi. I’ve tried to instill in him a great respect and love for Beyonce, but I’m not sure it’s worked yet.

Mr. Burger and I have had so many beginnings. Do I start when we met, began dating, moved to the same city, moved in together, got engaged? Every part of our relationship has been amazing, and, just to sound totally cliche, I am so, so lucky to be marrying my best friend (and I apparently love using commas).
For our purposes, I’d like to start at the beginning of wedding planning… and if we’re being totally honest, that would have to start years before I even met him. Really. I have had this tendency to say “I am totally having this at my wedding” about anything and everything fun that I have experienced since about senior year of high school.
Burger and I had talked about getting married from fairly early on in our relationship - we just knew that we were meant to be together. When I started medical school three years ago, I found myself daydreaming about our wedding to be an excellent distraction! The first two years of school were tough on me - both intellectually and psychologically - and “wedding planning” was an escape to a different world. It started out innocently enough, researching my dream venues and vendors, reading wedding blogs, visiting the knot.com. Eventually though, I had a knot account, read Weddingbee religiously, and made a folder to bookmark wedding inspiration. Embarrassing, but true.
Once the question was finally popped and the gorgeous ring was on my finger (that story is for another day :), I was ready and raring to go!
So, after that lengthy introduction, I give you the inspiration board for what I hope will be our timeless, romantic, classy, and super-fun wedding.

As soon as the mister “put a ring on it”, I already knew who we had to get as our photographer. Her name is Lori Barbely and she’s Le Bomb. I had worked with her a few times when I was modeling, and she was actually one of the photographers at our “ungagement” shoot.
I’ve met a lot of photographers, and I’ve seen a whole lot of different shooting styles. The biggest piece of advice I can give to you about hiring a photographer is to always meet them before you book them, no matter how great their work is. I’ve met quite a few sleazy photographers with amazing portfolios. Remember- good pictures don’t always equal a good person. Whoever you choose to hire has to follow you around (read: be with you) for your entire wedding day. If your personalities don’t mesh, this could spell disaster quite quickly.
That’s one of the many things I love about Lori—besides her amazing photography—she’s so non-invasive and shooting with her is so comfortable. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that she’s one of those people you meet and you instantly know she could totally be one of your friends. She has the best personality and sense of humor. Eee! I’m so excited! Anyway, before my head explodes, here’s some of her work!
How gorgeous is this?
Running about 15 minutes behind schedule, it was time for our first look. We hadn’t made a plan for where this was going to take place so we ended up right out in front of the two cabins the girls and guys were getting ready in, respectively. This was fine, although it felt a little less private than I’d hoped because both cabins were full of bridesmaids and groomsmen peering out at us.
That all fell away, though, very quickly. I came out first and waited for him.
Congratulations to the winner of this contest, mrsawesome09!

I had the pleasure of meeting Alisa Benay and checking out her inspiring designs at Bridal Market this year. Her vintage inspired dresses and accessories are gorgeous; too good not to share!

One of Alisa Benay’s gowns in particular has a purpose. Beginning in October, Alisa Benay launched her signature 100 Brides for 100K® philanthropic initiative to raise $100,000 for breast cancer causes. For every sale of this year’s limited edition gown, Mirabelle, Alisa Benay Bridal Couture will donate $1,000 from the sale towards breast cancer research and awareness!

As a master procrastinator, I decided that pricing wedding invitations about 13 months before the wedding was a much more pressing concern than studying… it’d be more fun if I didn’t have to re-enter the text every time!
I started with the thought that I would make my own wedding invitations à la Cards and Pockets (with a folio and backing and lots of colors). But after purchasing a sample set and attempting to print an invitation, I realized that my printer was not up to the task.
I thought about sourcing out the printing to Envelopper Inc., which does multi-color printing in custom sizes at a fairly reasonable price (even though everything else is more expensive than Cards and Pockets), but with all of the inserts, the price became so high that I wasn’t really sure it was worth it to make my own invitations—after all, the printing was still flat.

I wanna rock and roll all night!
That is the theme for our wedding entertainment. I want it to be a party. I want people on the dance floor the entire time. I want to shake my groove thang and fist pump to Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’.
My dilemma was how to go about making this happen. I love live music, but a DJ can play anything we want. So, like the little organized wedding maestro that I am, I sat down and made a list of the pros and cons of both.

I am so excited about the photographer that we hired for our wedding. I spent months and months researching photographers trying to find someone who took artistic wedding photos and didn’t charge an arm and a leg. Our wedding is on a very strict budget, but that doesn’t mean that I am willing to give up on quality.
Enter Clint from Renaissance Studio Photography. I had been checking his website for months, looking at the pictures and pondering whether or not we could afford him. When Sister Pudding and I went to meet him, we were both blown away by how easy going and professional he was. We definitely clicked, and he totally understood the vision that I have for our wedding. When he mentioned that he loved taking pictures of broken down barns, I was completely sold! (I’ve been obsessing over barns for years now… ask Mr. Pudding!)
Without further ado, here are some lovely wedding images captured by Clint and/or his partner Shawn:
Let’s start with some engagement shots:

Some time ago I asked you all for help to look for inspiration for my dress, but in the end I only made the dress for our e-pics. Things got really crazy with the move, so I couldn’t even start on the dress I had planned for this occasion.
Because my first attempt at finding a budget-friendly, casual beach wedding dress from a store was not successful at all, I told Mr Poodle I could just get a plain dress and transform it. We headed over to Sears and found a long turquoise dress at $9.99. That’s an awesome price to me!
So, this is the dress we bought:

… And the transformation began! I first cut it to the length I wanted, took the necklace straps out and cut two strips out of the leftovers to add to the bottom.
