A couple of years ago a friend brought me a flower hair clip from Hawaii. It quickly became my favorite hair accessory. I am sad to say that it is looking a little dingy these days from being worn so much. It was clear as day to me what my head would be adorned with on our wedding day. A flower clip (or fascinator, as I’ve learned these are called in the wedding world) and a birdcage veil. I checked out my best friend Etsy, and I also started to think about making my own fascinator.
When we started to plan our engagement photos, I began to think about doing a practice run on the fascinator. With my 1950s party dress, a yellow flower sounded perfect.
Using the trusty Weddingbee boards as a resource, I did a quick scan of how to make a hair fascinator. Mrs Pineapple’s tutorial and this Engageology tutorial (which gave me confidence to hold perfectly good fabric above an open flame!) helped give me the info I needed to design and create my own.
I used a fair number of supplies that I already had at my house:
So guess who booked their honeymoon? The Fro Yos!
Originally we were going to go to Puerto Rico. I was excited about PR, but we couldn’t find a place within our budget that we really loved. So the search continued, only now with a wider range of beach locations. We talked about it for a while, and we decided on Mexico! I love that we are going to be on a plane for a pretty short time, and will still get to enjoy a beautiful beach.
So where in Mexico will we go? The Rivera Maya! There are amazing coral reefs, beaches and luxury hotels. We picked the Dreams Resort and Spa Hotel.

I spent this past weekend in Savannah tying up the last few loose ends of our wedding in person. One of those loose ends was making sure our wedding cake is constructed as close to my vision as possible.
When I first visited Publix to discuss our cake, I was told there would be no problem recreating the Martha Stewart cake I found online. Remember this?
Well, when I stopped back by to actually place the order and hand over my inspiration photo, our baker suddenly realized that the cake was an oval, not a circle. I thought she knew this the entire time!
Get your mind out of the gutter. I’m not talking about a certain effect on the male anatomy (much to Mr Trail Mix’s relief :). Nope, I’m talking about blue Ball mason jars!
I went to the Chelsea Flea Market today with bridesmaid J, looking for a pair of earrings to go with a dress I’m wearing for a wedding in two weeks. J is a photo editor at a major (seriously major) magazine, and her taste is impeccable, so I’ve been using her as a sounding board for wedding decor ideas. We’d tossed around several concepts for centerpiece containers, including mismatched yellow and blue vases (too expensive, even going the flea market/thrift store route) and clear glass vases (too traditional), before finally settling on blue and/or clear mason jars. I was using this as my visual inspiration (ignore the lilacs, I’ll be using yellow and white flowers):

Well folks, that was it for my pro photos (aside from the family-shots, but did you really want to see those? Yeah, didn’t think so. You don’t know those people anyway). Shawna and Kory did an excellent job capturing our wedding, and Mr. Mary Jane and I were so glad to have them there. They took basically the entire afternoon out of their day to record ours for us, and then provided us with a ton of photos: 3 times more than I was expecting. Kudos to them.
But don’t worry! This isn’t quite the end of the recap train. I’ve still got a little more to share.
After we finished snapping pictures in Hillsboro, we parted ways with our photographers and headed back up to Grand Forks to meet our parents, siblings and friend at L’Bistro.
L’Bistro is a restaurant attached to the CanadInn hotel in Grand Forks. Attached-to-a-hotel makes it really beam with ambiance doesn’t it? It’s actually a really quiet, adult atmosphere with jazz playing softly in the background. It’s one of the few places in town where we figured we
Well, it turns out we were right on only one of those points.

Who brings home the bacon in your relationship? If you make more money than your FI, is it a touchy subject in your relationship, or does he like having a sugar mama?
Mrs. Stiletto - He used to make significantly more than I do (he was a mechanical engineer, I work for a non-profit), but when he was laid off in April of this year, the tables turned! He has launched his wedding photography business and while he’s doing very well, it definitely will take a little while before he will turn a profit! These changes have made us more conscious of what we spend our money on and what our priorities are… and it has also made us learn (slowly!) that it’s not his money or my money, it’s our money and we make those decisions together, no matter who is making more.
Mrs. Gloss - He brings home two times as much bacon as I do. I’m pretty sure he’d be fine with it if I made more money, possibly in fact, welcome it - but that will never happen.

Like others that have gone before me, I was sooooo ready for a change after the wedding. So ready that I made a hair appointment for the following Friday. Here’s the before (taken about a month ago at my final shower with my sister—can you see the resemblance?):
My hair has been about the same length and style for around 3 years, until now:

We’re not having a big, traditional wedding cake. We’ll be having a little cake, made by my sister (who works in a bakery). We’ll have a groom’s cake from a local bakery and a table full of other desserts that family members are making. So, I haven’t put a ton of thought into the cake, but I have a few criteria. It won’t be fancy, it won’t be too big, and the icing has to be just right. I don’t like most icings, especially the white ones. But, luckily, I love cream cheese frosting, and the off-white color is perfect for our fall wedding. For the cake, I was thinking red velvet or chocolate. But after testing out recipes for red velvet and not finding one that I’m in love with, I think we’ll be going with chocolate. Now, on to the look of the cake.
I tried out a red velvet recipe and making a tiered cake. Now remember, my sister works in a bakery and can actually ice a cake; I can’t, and this was me doing the trial run.

This was my attempt.

I’ve heard nothing but terrible things about eyelash extensions, but I’ve always been curious about how it works! I recently spoke with an eyelash extension company in New York that has been super helpful in letting me know in all the pros and cons of the process.

In a nutshell, I really LOVE my eyelash extensions and I will tell you why!
Right off the bat, I don’t think it’s for everyone. I think if you’re the type of person who loves to scratch her eyes out in the morning (we all know how wonderful that feels) or the type of person who has crazy irritating contacts, I don’t think this will work for you.

We take Weddingbee and being a bee very seriously over here in the Cloud house. So you can only guess what our fur baby Bella was dressed as for Halloween this year!!!

Because our wedding is only a week after my favorite holiday, we decided to incorporate some “spooky” Halloween fun into it.
We’re starting off by having a ghost tour after the rehearsal dinner for any interested guests. We secured a group rate with Old Town Trolley Tours to go on their “Ghosts and Gravestones Frightseeing Tour”. The tour is about an hour and a half long and is (according to their website) “an evening of fun, scares, humor and ghost stories as you are guided through America’s Most Haunted City.”

If it was completely up to me, our wedding would be pretty non-traditional. I’d love to incorporate some fun ideas I’ve seen in the online wedding world (Krispy Kreme donuts instead of a cake? YES PLEASE!). But alas, Mr Trail Mix is actually surprisingly traditional when it comes to weddings and has shot down a lot of my ideas. (A cocktail-style dinner reception and signature drink options are two that come to mind.) But in spite of his many protests, I have managed to incorporate a bit of non-traditional flair into our wedding, as well as doing away with a few traditions I wasn’t excited about. Here’s the rundown:
1. I’ll tell you a little secret: I’m not wearing a veil (I hope Mr Trail Mix doesn’t read this… okay, who am I kidding, there is no way he’s reading this). I love veils on other brides but it just doesn’t feel right for me. I tried a few on at Kleinfeld’s when I bought my dress but they didn’t make me feel any more bridal. And truthfully, I’ve always seen myself walking down the aisle wearing a wreath of flowers with ribbons down the back. And that’s what I’m planning on wearing. Something like this, only a little smaller and more delicate:

Before we were officially engaged, we booked the photographer. Mr Pretzel and I agreed that our top priority for our wedding (after the ceremony) was photography. Not just photography… KICK A$$ photography.
Style was very important to us, but having a huge fancy album… not so important. Photography was one of the first things I Googled when we started to talk wedding. I bookmarked different Seattle photographers and started reading their blogs. Let’s be honest—I was pretty certain who we was going to use from the first photo I saw, but this is a wedding of two people, and I really wanted Mr P’s opinion.
There were three main contenders, based on photography style:
One Love Photo: We felt that One Love had great uses of different camera types, beautiful soft light, and an overall vintage feel. The photos are amazing, and it is no wonder One Love is one of the most sought after photographers in and out of the Seattle area.
In a Frame Photography: Mr Pretzel and I liked the color and composition of In a Frame—the photos seemed crisp and clean. Also, there was some style variety in the collection.
