During the wedding planning process you are bombarded with an overload of visual stimuli. Hundreds of inspiration boards, ideas, and recap photos are out there just waiting for you to feast your eyes on. Some call the many, many beautiful pictures “wedding porn,” and that’s a pretty good term for it! I could (and have, and do!) spend hours looking at all the many ideas out there for inspiration, but I’m beginning to think I may need to stop.
I keep finding new things to add to our wedding plans! There are a lot of them that I think are really cute, but either are too expensive, too hard to do, or something that I really appreciate, but can live without. And then there are a few, two things in particular, that I can’t stop thinking about.
#1 is the Photobooth.

The time had finally arrived. It was time to slip on the dress I’d been wanting to wear every day for the last 3 months that it had been hanging in my closet. Would it fit OK? Would it look as fabulous as I had remembered? Would Groombeam love it?? We were all getting ready in my old bedroom which I had always thought was large—until you get a bride, five bridesmaids, and two photographers into it! So, my Maid of Honor had the solo role of getting me into my dress. And with one zip, I became a bride.
For the first six months that I had my engagement ring, I didn’t clean it. Shocker! I know it’s a sacrilege to let such an important piece of jewelry get dirty, but I didn’t really know what to use to clean it that would be safe for the metal, the diamond, and the earth. I did eventually buy something, but it wasn’t terribly natural and I wasn’t particularly happy with it.
So, I just found Enviro-Rite Allergen-free Natural Jewelry Cleaner via Earth Friendly Weddings, and I’m planning to order it soon. I have high hopes! It’s made for people with allergies, asthma and “chemical sensitivities”, contains no hazardous ingredients, phosphates, petroleum distillates, chlorine, perfumes, dyes or animal by-products… so it’s perfect for semi-hippies like me and Mr. Spaniel.
Especially Mr. Spaniel. He didn’t even let me move my old jewelry cleaner into the new apartment.
How do you clean your rings? Do you know of any other earth-friendly solutions?

Trying to find an affordable yet extremely elegant dress for my BMs online is proving to be quite a challenge. I have explored all of the usual suspects: Macy’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Lords and Ladies, Ann Taylor, and countless other websites. While my search for BM dresses has not been fruitful, I have found a few really cute dresses that I am considering for myself! I mean, apart from the wedding dress, I’m going to need a rehearsal dress, and a shower dress, and a bachelorette party dress, and who knows how many others!
I am super excited about wearing as many white/cream/ivory dresses as I can for the pre-wedding events, since these are the only events when wearing white is not frowned upon, but encouraged!
So, in a world where I could buy as many dresses as I wanted without worrying about our ballooning budget, here is what I would wear:
(All of the dresses below are from Nordstrom)
This dress would be an adorable party dress for after the ceremony. I just love the feathers! However, the price tag is a little steep, and my football player shoulders do not approve of anything strapless. Also, I think that I love my gown too much to change out of it!

Remember the first name post? or the second? or the third!? Or how I wrote about how poor I am at decision making? Well, combine that all into a “I’m 25-and-I-can’t-name-myself” sandwich.
I know… I know I said that we played rock paper scissors and I lost, and I said that I was fine with that. It’s just that the issue of a name change kept arising. Everywhere I turned people were asking me to make a decision about it. It wasn’t just about the wedding; sure, there were the questions of what we should be announced as when we headed down the aisle, as we headed into the reception, etc. The occasions just went so far beyond that.
I started a new job and had interviewed under my birth name, but I lost at rock, paper, scissors, so I asked them to use my new last name on my first day. I had to change my computer log in, database log in, phone, my email… on and on! Then they asked about my business cards, and the sign for my office, and I caved. I went for the double barrel because I just couldn’t imagine hiding my birth name in my middle name any longer. It just didn’t feel like me to say “first name completely different last name” to introduce myself. In fact, I’ve found myself channeling Madonna and Cher. When I meet someone new, even if it’s for work, I only use my first name. It’s my safety blanket, the one name I feel completely comfortable with at the moment.

After having a wonderful, not-traumatizing-in-the-least trip to the first dress shop, Cheeseburger Mom, Cheeseburger SisterMOH, and I had planned to stop at David’s Bridal to check out what they had to offer. In retrospect, we probably should have started with DB so that we weren’t constantly comparing the dress options, the fabrics, the colors, etc., but hey, you live and you learn.
Again we were met by a very polite saleswoman who showed us the Fall 2008 catalog and let me choose the styles that I would like to try on. I headed over to a dressing room and she brought over the dresses. One nice thing about David’s is that they carry the dresses in every size, so it felt great to finally get one to zip (even if it was a huge size number) :).
I won’t lie—on a whole we were disappointed with what we saw that day (trust me, we really wanted to fall in love - hello! those prices are amazing). Mostly it was because at this particular David’s they didn’t carry any dresses in ivory (!) and so we were left with stark white dresses trying to picture them in a different light. Also, the material was of lesser quality, which isn’t a problem, but you could just tell even from a distance. Here are the two I liked from my first DB trip:

Mrs. Dumpling - I’m thankful for Baby Dumpling, and being able to stay home with her. She’s the love of my life.

Mrs. Star - This year, I have so much to be thankful for. I’m thankful for the husband I still strive to deserve. I’m thankful for my family and the wonderful new people who have just officially joined it. I am thankful for the incredible experience I’ve been able to have over here at Weddingbee and for all the people who support me in real life and online every day. I’m thankful for our health and for our two puppy babies and for the fact that (even though we’ve had some tough times this year interspersed with the good) we’re still here living in my favorite city in the world with a whole lotta hope for the future.

Happy Thanksgiving hive! We’re all spending the day with our loved ones, and wish all the hive members a wonderful Turkey Day. We’re thankful to have spent another wonderful year with all of you!

So, I ordered 2 photo guestbooks; one from MyPublisher and one from Blurb. I was able to get a really great deal from Blurb with a 20% off coupon and free shipping code, while I was completely ridiculous and forgot to use the Costco 20% discount for the MyPublisher book. OOPS.
Aside from my slightly costly oversight, I’m here to report back!
To level the playing field, I got the premium paper in both and did the photo dust jackets. There is obviously a discrepancy in size, as well as in price. In the end, I spent about $35/book (I didn’t add any additional pages).
First, we will start with the MyPublisher book.

Before we were engaged, the reception and reception details were safe wedding topics for us to discuss. We threw around all sorts of ideas and had a lot of fun getting inspiration without diving into wedding research. Our list of “reception must haves”?
Photo booth
We. love. photo booths. I even initially suggested using one for our Save the Dates - but am pleased that we decided against it. The idea of our friends and family hamming it up in a photo booth had our toes tingling.

Several months back, I told my newly-engaged friend that I wanted to throw her a bridal shower. The wedding date was set for March. Then they moved it to December.
December and late November are — to make a gross understatement — very busy times for us. Aside from the usual holiday rushes, we have the end of the semester and finals upon us. It’s a busy time at work, too. We’re also dealing with wedding-aftermath stuff this year (photo sorting and ordering for gifts, sending Thank Yous, etc). But a December wedding for my friend meant I couldn’t push off the bridal shower until February (like I’d originally planned)! I needed to get off my butt and plan this thing!
Thankfully, it’s not at my house. There were over 30 invitees, and my friend’s mom offered to host the shower. Her home is larger and more of the guests know where it is. The moral of that story is: I won’t have to clean. But I did need to create some invites!
My friend’s wedding invitations weren’t anything too elaborate. They were a beautiful tan and green design, traditional and simple. Very nice. So I knew I did not want a wild-and-crazy, elaborate and brightly-colored shower invitation; it would not match her style. (That worked out great too: simple = faster!)
I really wanted something I could print and send in an afternoon, so I turned to Office Max to look for some patterned paper. And boy did they deliver!

OK, here are the rest of the engagement pics! I thought I would post them before you guys got really sick of seeing our faces.
Once again, thanks to Lulu, our awesomely creative photographer!
On Fannin street in the flower market:
A week after we were engaged, I wanted to go dress shopping and I had the week off. Perfect!
I rounded up my best girls and headed to David’s Bridal. My mom, my future mother-in-law, my sister, my best friend and I met at the store, which was not an easy feat since all but one live way up north. Props to them for making the trek for me!
I had printed out dresses that I had liked on their website which apparently is a good thing when you walk in there. We signed in and I was told that although you may have your favorites from pictures, no one ever buys the first dress they try on. Apparently, I’m the exception. I put on the first dress they brought which was one of my top 2, and immediately I got “oohs” and “ahhs” from my girls. It was David’s Bridal T8076.

Honestly, every dress that I tried on after the first was given an “it’s OK, but I still like the first one better.” At the end of the day, I ended up buying the first dress I tried on. Go figure.
