I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.

Table Numbers - Opinions Please!

December 1st, 2009 @ 10:58 am by Mrs. Cola

In my last post I showed you some mock-ups of what our smaller centerpieces will look like. Well, next on the list is to figure out what to do for the table numbers. I’ve been struggling with these a lot.

At first I was thinking I would get cheap 4 x 6 frames from IKEA, stain them, and put 4 together in a square, with a candle in the center. I was then going to print the numbers on vellum or parchment paper, making little luminaries. Something like this (yes, of course, more Photoshop!):

Table Numbers - Opinions Please! : wedding decor Tablen But my mom shot that idea down because they were going to be too big compared to the centerpieces she mocked up. And I agreed; I was just bummed to be back at square one. I then found these luminaries on Etsy, which were also along the lines of what I was thinking of:

Or these DIY luminaries:

I pondered making something similar to these, but smaller, since the above ones are also too big, but now I’ve been reconsidering. With our ceremony starting at 5PM, and the cocktail hour at 5:20ish, dinner at 6:30 and sunset that night at 8:30PM, I’m not sure luminaries are the way to go. I have a feeling we won’t be able to see them lit up until much later in the night, which kinda defeats the purpose, you know?

And then I have this picture that I found in the bible, er, I mean, Martha Stewart Weddings. The sweet simplicity of a painted wood number:

I love how this number doesn’t detract from the centerpiece, and isn’t paper, but I wonder: will something like this be too small, or too hard to see? I think if I did go this route I’d do it in stained wood, to tie in the other wood elements that will be on the table.

Does anyone have any better ideas for non paper table numbers? I would love to see your inspiration photos!

I like the idea of the wooden numbers, maybe you could mount it on something so it would stand out a bit more? Too bad the timing for the luminaries isn’t quite right bc they are sooo pretty!

I think that looks great but worry that it would be too small to actually help people find their seats.

maybe you could decorate those paper maiche type numbers to tie in; they’re bigger!

Joann’s Crafts (I don’t know if they have that where you are) has several sizes of wooden letters and numbers. Or, you could always mount the number to a wooden plaque to make it stand out more. Cute ideas!

Hobby Lobby also has some wooden letters and numbers. I love the simplicity of the table numbers in the last picture, but I agree that it might be too small.

I really like the little wooden numbers with that centerpiece, but it may be a bit small. Have you considered using smaller frames? Maybe 3×3?

I’m doing something similar to mrs peep toe’s numbering the tables (http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/mrs-peep-toes-numbering-the-tables) but I’m using photo mats & easels instead.

I like the idea of the wooden number but I definitely think it needs to be bigger. You don’t want your guests to have to walk to each table to try and find their number. Unless of course you provided a map of where all the tables are located near your escort cards. Then it wouldn’t be as big of a deal if the numbers are on the smaller side.

The wooden numbers are cute, but the color will determine how easy they are to spot.

I love the little cut out ones… I would paint them a darker color to stand out, but they’re really beautiful. You could do a smaller version of the luminaries; the paper flower ones are really, really pretty. Just do a shorter version. And put a flashlight in there that beams the number on the ceiling, like the bat signal in Batman…

We used standard table number stands, and put our engagement pics in them with the table numbers. that way, they stood above the centerpieces so people could easily pick out their table

The wood numbers are super cute, I agree with moonbeam on the color- plus, if your table numbers sort of go in order it won’t be tough for guests to find their table, if 22 is next to 4 it might be more confusing and guests would be looking across the room (hence the need for large table numbers) than if the tables start at 1,2,3,4 and go through the hall that way.

I love the wooden numbers!! I’m thinking of using address numbers myself, but I haven’t figured out how to make them super visible. I’ll let you know when I do!

I love the wooden numbers. or any numbers that look like that, can be metal too. It’s understated and elegant. Table numbers don’t have to be a neon sign, alerting guests from miles away. It serves its purpose by confirming to guests that they have found the right table.

I thought about mounting wooden/plastic numbers on the glass of picture frames to make the more visible. But I am going in a totally different direction now… naturally.

I made my own vellum numbers for my reception and they lasted from 5:30pm to midnight without a problem.
