Mrs. Hamster's Picture
Mrs. Hamster, New York City Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy Engagement Date: March 9, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Pierre Hotel About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
About Mrs. Hamster

So now that you’ve seen the ring and know that I laughed in his face, I thought I’d share our proposal story.

Let me first preface the story by saying that I’m not a big center-of-attention person. I love hosting parties for other people, but I get all awkward turtle when all the attention is on me. The mans knows this, so he wasn’t about to whip out a ring in the middle of an ice skating rink (although I do enjoy witnessing those proposals!).

Super cute, but not for me

I had just come home from a long, stressful day at work (don’t we all have those?), when coincidentally, the mans had the day off. As soon as I walked through the door, he started complaining about how tough his day was since there was nothing on TV or the internet, and he had a tough load of laundry. Just as I was thinking “The nerve of this guy!!”, I yanked open the coat closet to see this:

Yep, that’s the teddy bear he got for me three years ago, when we first started dating. In his chubby paw is a box holding the most awesome-est ring! I turned around, and there was Mr. Hamster with a big ol’ grin on his face.

Of course I said yes, after I (as you know) laughed in his face - and we celebrated by going to a tapas place where the mans had made reservations. Since we had just gotten engaged, they gave us free desserts! Wow - it *was* a perfect day! :)

Those are our free dessert faces. ;)

Anyone else have an at-home proposal?

Aww, that made me tear up! The Dude proposed to me at home, too. I was definitely against a “public” proposal, and he knew it!

That is very similar to how WE got engaged!! I came in one night and saw my favorite stuffed rabbit on our couch with the ring box on it. :) It was perfect for us.

So cute, and good job, Mr. Hammy!!

So cute!! My fiance also proposed at home. The saturday before Easter he woke me up to a surprise Easter egg hunt inside our apartment. He hide a bunch of eggs with candy and a clue to the next egg. The final egg was back in bed with him, where he said the sweetest, most amazing words and then asked me to be his wife. I cried and said YES! It was such a great moment.

That is such a cute scene to come upon. I’d love to open my closet door to a cute little teddy bear like that from time to time, with or without the ring!

My fiance had plans to propose to me on our mini vaca in the white mountains, but he couldn’t wait! He had just gotten home from a very long tour (he’s a musician/lead singer, all my friends knew I’d marry a rock star) and while I was in the kitchen messing with the dishwasher he came in and tried to distract me while he placed the box on the counter. There was a really goofy look on his face and when I eventually saw the box I said, “What is that? That isn’t my.. is it?! You didn’t!!!” He opened the box and I said, “Yes, yes, YES!”

It was very nice, but he had to leave on another US tour about a week later, so we didn’t have much time to revel in it. I miss him like crazy.

I had an at home proposal - DH decked out my apartment (first by cleaning the whole front room and kitchen). He had twinkle lights hanging across the ceiling and about 14 dozen roses throughout the entire apartment. Since I love to scrapbook, he made me a whole scrapbook and left a page on the coffee table with a sticker of a guy asking a girl to marry him. Oh and he had our song playing in the background :)

Your proposal is great, the teddy bear holidng the ring is so cute!

You both look just so happy. I’m so glad that you had a proposal that was right for you. Part of me always hoped for something similar! I love the idea of getting engaged in a situation that feels homey and fits in with you as a couple.

Awww!! That is adorable. My FI proposed via a carved pumpkin. We walked into the house after a hockey game and there was a pumpkin in the middle of living room lit up on Halloween saying “Will u marry me”

we didn’t have a public engagement either, other than my minor tears on the ny subway on the way to look at rings. Other than that know one knew what was coming, not really even my fiance and I. So it was unpredictable, slightly impulsive and perfectly us.
I love the idea of home engagements, and anything that fits the couples collective personality!
