A Tale of Two Hairstyles

December 3rd, 2009 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Cheeseburger

I personally love both up-dos and long flowy curls. So, like I always do when I am undecided, I asked Burger for his opinion. Imagine my surprise when he actually had an answer for me! He said that he likes my hair better down, and well, that was that! I started gathering inspiration pictures of long, curly styles.

I like that all of these pictures are similar, but with subtle differences. I’m not sure which will look best on me, so I will defer that decision until after my hair trial. :)

Then I got to thinking… there is no way I am going to survive the reception with all of my hair down (I have a well-known intolerance for heat). I started envisioning myself as a sweaty mess, begging my friends for a ponytail holder to pull my hair back. Gross. It was at that point I knew I had to have an updo. But what about Burger? And oh, how I had fallen for the long-hair look. :(

That’s when I decided that I would be a two hairstyle bride. I’ll get my hair done professionally that morning and wear it down for the ceremony, then after our formal portraits and before the cocktail hour (remember we’ve got a few hours to fit all of this in), either myself, Cheeseburger SisterMOH, Cheeseburger Mom or my girls (or maybe all of the above!) will get my hair up into a cute and cool style. It doesn’t have to look too overdone, just UP with a little bit of style. Here are some inspirational photos that I think will be easy enough for us to replicate:

I am so jealous that you can wear your hair down with curls. My hair is thick and the wedding is in the middle of July! Talk about a no-go for down with curls. I really like the idea of changing your hair for the reception. It gives a real feel for the change in attitude during the day.

I’m planning on it but have no ideas on how to actually do my hair. I just can’t decide but I really love my hair down and to one side now that it is long and, like you, can’t stand to keep my hair down all night.

I’m currently deciding between up or down, but will probably let my hair trail be the decider.

This is exactly what I’m planning to do. I am actually having my hairstylist stay so she can throw it up into a loose updo.

I thought about doing this, and even blogged about it, but I just don’t think I’ll have enough time between our ceremony and reception! I’m excited to see how it works for you, though!

I love the second down hairstyle. I love the idea of doing two! I want to wear my hair down and curly, but I’m worried that it’ll lose its style as the night goes on. Maybe this is a viable option!

That is EXACTLY how I plan to do my hair - long, flowy, curly for the ceremony … but for the same reason (hello sweat … it doesn’t work for the “bridal glow”) I plan to wear it up at the reception and am ultra-thankful for my lovely friends who have the ability to do hair!

I lovvvveeeee the first pic. I would say a good part of the reason I decided to get married in December (in 9 days, ack!) is to aviod sweaty neck. :)
I saw a tutorial in the Jan ‘10 (I think) issue of Brides on how to do a quick updo. Maybe you should check it out.

I totally want to wear my hair down (and may have snagged a few of your pics for my hair inspiration file!) but I also worry about sweaty hair. Hmmm…I’m now considering being a two-hairstyle bride. Very interesting!

You’d be much better off having your hair in an updo first (have them put your hair in curlers prior to retain some curl) and then just remove bobby pins after ceremony to wear your hear down at the reception. I think that if you try to do the updo yourself it may end up looking too thrown together….

I am going to have my hair entirely down and then after dinner, when the dancing will really kick into high gear, I’m just going to put it into a pony tail. Nothing special; I’ll have had plenty of formal pics with my hair and I’m not too bad with the pony.

That is such a great idea, you’ll be so much more comfortable to dance the night away with your hair up!

I’m still undecided on my hairstyle but I’m definitely going back and forth between updo vs. half up/half down.

I’m with you Miss C, I’m aggravated by my hair down after a night of dancing. I love the side bun look though!

This makes me wish so much that my hair would hold curl. I love the last updo so much. :)

@ fiftyfootbride- My hair doesn’t hold curls very well either but I had an updo like the last picture. She used rollers first, then pinned the curls into place and hair-sprayed the crap out of my hair! My curls stayed pinned the entire afternoon.
