I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.

Corset Wrapped Bouquet Mock Up

December 3rd, 2009 @ 12:42 pm by Mrs. Cola

As much as I would love to keep writing about random inspirations or my beautiful dress, it’s time to move on with all my other little projects (at least until the dress comes in and I can discuss alterations!).

With all the talk between my mom and I lately about flowers, I thought I’d share this little 10 minute mock up with you.

She was having trouble understanding what I was looking for in the ribbon on my bouquet, and I couldn’t find the picture I’d seen in a magazine somewhere. These images were pretty close:

But still, none of these were exactly right, so I decided to (gasp!) do a real life mock up instead of Photoshopping one first.

I started with some green straws for the stems, and wrapped two white napkins around them for the fabric. I’m hoping to use extra fabric left over from shortening my dress, so it will match. I then took some purple ribbon, folded it in half, and used a small dot of glue at the halfway point to attach it to the top of the napkin. I then carefully wrapped it, criss crossing it all the way down, and used another dot of glue to secure the ends, cutting off the excess. I basically did the same thing for the chocolate ribbon, but alternating where I put the criss crosses.

Next I used some leftover pearl stickers down the front of the stems (I’m guessing pearl tipped floral pins will work better when we do the real thing). I think I want a loop of pearls around the bottom of the napkin/fabric too, but didn’t want to waste any more pearl stickers for this proof of concept. And as I write this and look at the pics again, I’m thinking I might want to alternate pearls and crystals, to better match the bling on my dress.

Here is a raw picture of the mock up:

And here is a picture of the mock up with the background removed and sample flowers (these aren’t the flowers I necessarily want, just an example of around the size of the arrangement I’m going for).

Did you have trouble figuring out exactly how you wanted the ribbon on your bouquet wrapped?

You have skills that pay the bills! :)

I want the green showing at the end of mine, but I still want them watered so they last all day…I don’t know what to do…

@ pmerr - I actually discussed this recently with my mom, I think what we’ll end up doing is cutting the flowers short, and putting them in a small oasis holder (container with floral foam and water), and then put cut stems around the oasis, covering the water filled container. That way the flowers will be in water all day, and I can still have the green stems sticking out the bottom of my bouquet!

Oh that isn’t something I thought out exactly yet. But I want to have his Grandma’s wedding ring, and a pictures of my grandparents who have passed on. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the second picture with the Dragonfly’s.

Where did you find that?

That’s a great mock-up. :p

All I know about my bouquet-wrapping is that I don’t want it wrapped all the way around AND on the bottom. Bouquets like that can end up looking… illicit.

We’ll probably end up going with twine. I’m a weirdo.

Miss Cola, I used Oasis for my bouquet as well. It lasted amazingly well for DAYS after the wedding. If you plan on using hydrangeas for your bouquet, like you have pictured above, then having them in the damp oasis will keep them hydrated (very important for hydrangeas). Plus, no wet stems to ruin your beautiful white dress!! Oasis is so easy to use, too. I love what you have :)

Your photoshopping skills are ri-freakin-diculous! And I love how you wrapped the stemps. Mine were a simple white satin ribbon with a small navy band, but I was afraid of there being too much attention on the stems, lol.
