Mrs. Pudding's Picture
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: August 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.

A Bride Unveiled

December 4th, 2009 @ 10:07 am by Mrs. Pudding

This post is all about veils. There seem to be so many choices these days… how is a slightly indecisive bride to choose?

We have the stylish birdcage:

The romantic mantilla:

The dramatic cathedral:

And the sassy “pouf”:

But veils are no longer a must for brides. Many choose to wear a flower:

or some feathers:

All of these pictures are from the Weddingbee community… it just goes to show what wonderful diversity we have here at the ’bee!

As for me, I will be pulling a Mrs. Glitter and wearing a chapel length veil with a blusher. I know that the symbolism behind the blusher is a bit flawed, but I have always romanticized that moment when the father of the bride lifts her veil. I think that it will be a very special moment between my dad and me.

What type of veil are you wearing?

I’m wearing what I think is a chapel length veil (long but not as long as the cathedral) My mom is making it for me! I haven’t really liked anything I’ve seen (and everything appears to be several hundred dollars) so I will be getting a custom one :o)

I did two: birdcage for reception and drop fingertip with blusher for ceremony!! Great compromise =)

I wore a waltz-length (around my knees-ish) veil with a blusher veil. I loved the blusher. It’s just a piece of fabric to me, no need to buy into the virginity-revelation symbolism if you don’t want to. The lifting the veil ritual was one of my favorite parts of the wedding….I hope you enjoy it too!

Great inspiration pics! I’m wearing a single-tier cathedral length veil. My mom really, really wanted me to wear a blusher (and I think they’re lovely) but the veil that came with my dress didn’t have one. So, it’s single-tier for me!

I think that mine will be a fingertip veil with a thin ribbon edge. After trying on so many it’s what looked the best with my dress and bolero jacket.

I went no-veil, I was very nervous about our outdoor ceremony and it blowing all over the place. I had two flowers that I pinned in the back, and they were enouh accent for me.

I was avidly “no-veil” until my fiance mentioned that he loved the look of a veil (and with our casual affair and my short dress, he still wanted me to look bridal). So…after some consideration I’ve decided on a birdcage veil that doesn’t cover my face and a small flower clip. Problem solved! Can’t wait to wear it! (Even if it’s just for him).

I wish I could wear one of each style veil…but the fiance really can not stand any veil and since we’re getting married on the beach and I’m worried about a veil blowing around in the wind, I’m opting to wear orchids in my hair. I might make a veil just so I can wear while I’m washing dishes or something.

The blusher is so beautiful and sweet to me (even though, yes, the tradition is slightly skewed)! So, I think I’ll be going that route!

Sigh, I love Mrs. Star’s “sassy pouf”… I told a friend last night that I didn’t want to wear a veil and she freaked out! Um….? I don’t have to wear one. I don’t like things around my head!

Well, until a month ago, I was anti-veil. Now I will be wearing a finger-tip length unembellished single tier. It just looks oh so pretty I couldn’t resist!

I didn’t think I wanted a veil until I started wedding planning… but they are just so… BRIDAL! I couldn’t resist. :)

I thought I always wanted a veil with a blusher, but it looked silly with my dress, and my fiance lamented that he would not be able to see my face well as I walked down the aisle, so I’ve been working on a Juliet cap made from tulle and ribbon, with a jeweled or flower clip to secure it at the nape of my neck.

I am sorry for the length of that sentence.

@Miss Trail Mix: I’ve seen that done before with a wreath of daisies. What flower are you using?

@darling blackbird: I would love for you to share that once it is done: it sounds so unique!

For a while I thought I’d do an elbow length. Then someone had a lovely mantilla made into a nice veil that doesn’t take away from it’s beauty.

I am also flirting with a chapel or cathedral length, but if I have to wear something to cover my shoulders (for religious reasons), then I think that would be too much and might just opt for the elbow length. Either way, I’m also wearing a blusher or will have a second-tier that’ll serve as a blusher.

I thought I would like a birdcage, but it turns out that I didn’t feel “bridal” until I put on a chapel length with the blusher. I also love the mantilla style, but i don’t think it will fit my “look”.

All of the options for veils are so overwhelming! Can I just wear them all? :-D
