Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.

Diamonds In The Sun: E-Ring Macro Pics

December 4th, 2009 @ 12:11 pm by Mrs. Cola

I took these pictures earlier this summer, after reading a Weddingbee PRO article on the best ways to capture the beauty of your engagement ring in a photo. The main key is to take your ring off, and then experiment with the macro setting on your camera. I thought I’d post these pictures of my ring sparkling in the summer sun.

Le sigh! I can’t wait until the sunny weather returns and my ring will sparkle in the sunlight again. There’s a reason I moved out of Puget Sound Washington, to get away from the depressing rain, but at least being cooped up inside is a good excuse to work on wedding projects!

How many of you ladies have tried your hand at an engagement ring photo shoot?

Your ring is beautiful! And your pictures completely make me miss summer… this winter thing is not my favorite.

Bellenga, I can’t WAIT to see pictures of your ring!!! SO excited!

WOW that’s a beautiful ring.
I managed to get some really good shots of my ring on my hand by doing the same set-up–the key was a fairly simple background. If there was too much going on, my camera didn’t know what to focus on.

I tried… I failed, in comparison. Possibly it’s because my camera’s macro setting really isn’t all that great, but probably because I never think of trying until it’s already dark out and there is no natural light… my lamps are kind of garbage. :)

Beautiful ring! What kind of camera do you have? I tried doing the macro setting on mine but its just really focusing close up - probably because Im trying it at work under flourescent lights :)

@ bellenga - yup, it’s a Verragio! Still not sure what I’ll do for a wedding band though, don’t want to cover the ‘V’ shape on the side.
@ naangel55 - I have a point and shoot, but a nice one, the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS, with 14.7 Megapixels and 15x zoom. However, of the about 60-70 pictures I took in this photo shoot, the ones above are the only that really turned out. So the more you shoot, the more likely you are to get a good pic!

@ tea - Isn’t it great when our guys actually appreciate the rings they bought for us? When I showed Mr. Cola the first picture above of my ring, he was like “Wow, I did good. That’s the Money Shot!”

Incredibly gorgeous!! These came out great! I did try that link and took a bunch of pics but as I’ve said before - my little “helper bee” aka FI decided to help out & clean and now we can’t find the camera chord… awesome. ;)

Mr. Nachos discovered the macro setting on his camera and went crazy with our rings…it was too funny!

That last shot is gorgeous. I don’t think my camera is capable of taking good, non-flash photos, so no glamour shots of my ring yet!

Your ring is GORGEOUS! I love when the bees do the “ring post”. It’s like a rite of passage!
