A little darker; not quite so periwinkle; brighter; not that dark; more vibrant; too teal…
When I picked our wedding colors (I’ll be fair: no use of the royal we here unless ’we’ really did it) and Mr. Guinea Pig OKed them, I had no idea just how difficult a task I had embarked on. All I knew was that blue was both Mr. GP’s and my favorite color so it had to be in our wedding, and pale yellow seemed like a nice match.

(perfect yellow color, but our blue is much bolder)

Since we knew we wanted to have the ceremony outside, I wanted a blue that would really stand out, as well as go nicely with a waterfront setting. I had the perfect blue in mind; a dress I had bought about a year before specifically because the dress color on the mannequin in the window drew me in.
(sorry for the beheaded picture, but gotta love that blue)
This would be so easy, I thought - I’ll just get my bridesmaids this dress - it’s perfect! Much too easy. Not only is that dress from two seasons ago, but they don’t even have that color in their line anymore. And thus began the quest for the perfect blue. Once I was sure my first dress idea was not an option, I decided I didn’t want to make all my girls wear the exact same dress anyway, so I set out to find a line with a bunch of cute options in the blue I wanted. I looked high and low, ordered samples from 7 or 8 different lines and almost had myself convinced that some other blue would be close enough. After going to a dress store with my friend/bridesmaid Lauren, I excitedly came home to show Mr. Guinea Pig a picture of the ’close enough’ color I had found… to which he said “that looks a lot like periwinkle”. Ugh, he was right - how does he know what periwinkle is, anyway?!

Frustrated, I gave up on searching for bridesmaid’s dresses for months, and figured that when it came to the point where I had to make a decision, I would settle for whatever was closest.
Did you start out with a very particular color in mind and try to match it, or did you find a cute dress and use that as your color? If you had a color in mind, how long did it take you to find it? Did you just decide to go with something ’close enough’?
