I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.

I Cheated On My STDs!

December 4th, 2009 @ 4:14 pm by Mrs. Cola

Alright, so I got lazy. Not as lazy as I could have been, but still, pretty lazy. We had a few people that never got their addresses to us, or were late additions to the guest list that I still needed to get Save The Dates out for. Eight people, to be exact. But I didn’t want to give up my extra STD that I made for myself, nor did I feel like making more pocketfolds, since I was still pretty burnt out from that project. So I cheated.

I made simplified STDs, still carrying out our theme, but these only took me a couple hours to make. I started with the same green card stock from my elaborate STDs, and cut them into single sheets measuring 5″ x 6.5″. I then took my 11″ strips of chocolate and purple ribbon (I had leftovers already cut) and glued those around the center of the green card stock. After that I simply layered the purple card stock with our date over the ribbon, and then attached the STD magnet and an insert on butter cream cardstock with 4 photo corners.

And here is what they looked like:

Now, with the magnet taken off, but the cream insert still there:

And with the cream insert removed:

These aren’t too bad, right? Better than just throwing a magnet into an envelope, which I did consider doing for these last few. Actually, in retrospect, I probably should have done these simple STDs for everyone in the first place. It would have saved me a ton of time, and I wouldn’t have set the bar quite so high for the invitations. Oh well, what can you do!

Now, do you wanna see what I did with the leftover magnets?

Seriously, this is like only half the leftovers! So if anyone needs extra magnets… you know who to call!

Did you end up cutting corners on any of your DIY projects, in the interest of saving time, or just because you were lazy?

We did that with our leftover magnets too! We had 3 different versions so they are a cool little design on the bottom half of our fridge. And we still have more leftovers in addition to that.

Hey, these look great! You totally could’ve just given these to everyone. But hey, you live, you learn. And I’m sure you enjoyed making the more elaborate ones.

We have a ton of leftover magnets, too! We haven’t done anything with them yet, but maybe when we get a fridge (and a house), we’ll use your decor idea. ;)

Wow, I really liked the slimmed down ones! They look really great! Love the “surprise, here’s another layer” effect!

I love the slimmed down version, but that’s probably because I thought you were slightly crazy for how adventurous you were with the first STD. I vote you hand-out leftover magnets to all of your vendors :)
