About Mrs. Nachos

You’re Turning Violet, Violet!

December 4th, 2009 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Nachos

A few people have asked me if I plan on wearing my wedding dress to the cocktail party we’re throwing back at home in June. I thought about it since a decent amount of money was spent on it and not many people will get to see me in it aside from in pictures. I decided not to though, mostly because it’s a bit much for the party we’re planning. The party will be dressy, but definitely not formal, and definitely not the right venue for a wedding gown.

I knew I wanted to wear white so I searched online for a cute dress that would be kind of wedding-y but still fun and flirty. I was also hoping to find something I could wear in St. Thomas after the ceremony, too. After a little searching, I found it online at Prom Girl (not a store most 32 year olds would usually frequent, but hey, it works!).

I’m replacing the black sash with a silver satin one I found at David’s Bridal, and I bought a strand of rhinestones that I’m contemplating sewing down the middle for a little sparkle. I also have the perfect pair of silver peep toe pumps to wear with it. I love playing dress up!

So, the dress came about a week after I ordered it and it fits as long as I don’t breathe too deeply (it’s a little snug in the rib area and it’s not a stretchy material). I hear that breathing is very overrated though, and I think the white will look lovely against my blue hue. I’m just hoping I don’t yawn when the dress is on. Or have to bend over and pick something up. Or laugh too hard. Or trip.

This could get ugly.

Are you dealing with a slightly-too-snug dress? What’s your solution?

Your post titles are absolutely perfect. :) I’ve struggled a bit with the “slightly snug” dress situation in the past, myself. Can you wear a long-line bra that (for lack of a better term) pulls you in a bit? Sometimes this works, but sometimes it just adds extra bulk where it’s not needed!

I think that’s the same dress my friend changed into for her reception this summer!

My dress is definitely “snug”. They ordered a 4 and I knew I needed a 6…ugh, don’t know why I didn’t fight them more. It took my MOH and I about 10 mins just to get the dress up over my butt. And when the saleslady laced me up, I couldn’t breathe or sit. Luckily, MOH relaced me not quite as tight, and it was much better. I figure I’m just not going to be able to eat anything the week before the wedding. LOL

Love that dress! And uh, breathing is TOTALLY overrated. My wedding dress is definitely snug which is why I a.) need to lose a few lbs, and b.) bought a reception dress! The reception dress is snug, too, but in the best possible curve-hugging way.

Maybe you could get some Spanx! They’re pretty thin so it wouldn’t add too much bulk, but might be able to suck things in enough that the dress fits more comfortably. But you’re right, breathing is overrated anyways :)

I love the dress but it still seems to bridesmaidy for me. I’d like a white dress that I can perhaps wear again on vacation. Any good places (NYC) or online stores that anyone can suggest?

I considered this dress for a beach wedding! Love your ideas for doctoring it up! I find that even when I’m not wearing a stretchy fabric, they tend to stretch slightly with wear.

Maybe wear it around the house a bit to break it in? Isn’t it the same for new shoes? Hope the dress works out for you!

Haha, your post is funny!! I am also a 2 dress bride and one of the dresses will be a Mori Lee dress as well (a BM dress in white). I do find their dresses to be really snug. My bff’s BM dresses were Mori Lee and I had to switch the dress with another BM because I couldn’t breathe and my chest (breast) we’re getting smushed!

I have a Mori Lee wedding dress, and I am on the “fit into the wedding dress diet”… lol. It is snug also, and I CAN’T wear any sort of bra (regular or long line) or else I can not breathe.

If you look inside the dress, (at least mine does) it can be let out at least an inch. :) That is the last resort.

I think that it is a super cute dress!!!

That looks like such a fun dress! And putting rhinestones on it will add a nice bit of sparkle!
