Mrs. Guinea Pig's Picture
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
About Mrs. Guinea Pig

A Tragedy

December 6th, 2009 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Guinea Pig

I haven’t talked about our photographer yet, but sadly in the beginning of September, we found about an unbelievable tragedy. On a Wednesday afternoon in early September, our photographer Arthur Remanjon was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Guinea Pig and I booked Arthur well over a year before our wedding - photography was the most important thing to us, and we wanted to get it nailed down before our top choices were booked. We ran through so many photographers’ websites they were starting to blur together, but when we finally sat down to write our ranked list, Arthur came in number one for both of us. We immediately called to make an appointment, met with Arthur at his studio a week later and booked him the next day.

Our first meeting was so much fun - Arthur immediately put us both at ease, and even managed to make me want to have my picture taken (no small feat). He was funny, down to earth, and knew exactly what we were going for in our photos. He had years of experience and his portfolio was filled with photos I loved:

A Tragedy : wedding photography Remanjo02 remanjo02

A Tragedy : wedding photography Remanjo03 remanjo03

A Tragedy : wedding photography Remanjo04 remanjo04

A Tragedy : wedding photography Remanjo05 remanjo05

(all photos from remanjon.com)

When I found out, I stared at the screen in shock and denial for a good 10 minutes, thinking they must have the wrong guy. There is no way someone that talented could be taken away so quickly.

One reason this hits very close to home is that I ride a motorcycle. When I called my dad and told him what happened, his first question was “Will please you sell your motorcycle?” - and he’s the one who got me hooked in the first place!

Mr. Guinea Pig and I didn’t know what we were going to do. At the time it was too soon to say how Arthur’s studio would be handling his clients, and there were much more pressing things for them to deal with (for example, the wedding he was booked for 2 days later). But our hearts go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and anyone whose lives were touched by him. His wonderful personality and superb talent are sorely missed.

I remember reading about this in September when it happened in the Sun. I was saddened then, and now again to know a fellow bride who knew him. Be safe on your bike!

Thanks everyone for the heartfelt sympathies and for showing support for Arthur’s family. His sister has since taken over the running of his studio and his longtime associate has taken over as main photographer.
@KLP2010: Thanks so much for the offer, I think we’ve got things sorted out now, which I’ll talk about in a much much later post (took a while to figure things out).

Mr. Lab recently sold his motorcycle to help with finances and because he knew how worried it made all his family. It’s not usually the bike rider, but all the other people on the road that they have to be worried about. This is so saddening. It’s good to hear that they have worked out everything to keep his studio (and legacy) running.

Wow this is sad and it hits you hard in two ways. Someone you knew and riding a bike. And I do hope that you, your fiance, and his family are doing ok. My fiance used to ride a bike but sold it a few yrs ago. I hope you will be careful on yours but that you dont let this put fear into riding. God Bless him and his family and everyone who was touched by this.

That’s so sad! As someone who is a frequent passenger on motorcycles (Fi & his family all ride), it’s always something that’s on your mind every time you’re on the bike (at least mine). My heart is with his family!

how sad for his family and for the people he touched. we’ve gone through something similar - the priest at our church, who was to marry us, died a few weeks ago. wedding planning can give you such tunnel vision; events like these make you step back and realize what’s really important.
