I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Fanciful & Feathery (Part 1)

December 7th, 2009 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

Yes, yes, you all know about my feather obsession, which I chronicled here, aaand since you’ve also seen my dress, here, you already know that there are no feathers on that. Soo… what exactly am I doing with feathers, you might ask? This:

Oooh, aaaaah, that’s right, hive! I’ll be rocking feather eyelashes down the aisle. Exciting huh? I’ve been searching everywhere for the perfect pair and…

Okay, you can breathe now, I was totally kidding. Did I scare you? Fanciful and Feathery (Part 1) : wedding accessories Silly01 silly01

But seriously, I’ll be working feathers into a few key things for the big day. Numero uno will be for my hair. But first, let’s check out a few of my favorite feathered bees:

The fabulous Mrs. Meatball rocking not only the feathery flower, but the feathery earrings, too! Damn girl!

My hairpiece, however, is more feather, less flower. I seriously thought about just making my own fascinator, but two things stood in my way: 1. I can’t find decent and interesting enough feathers around here anywhere, and 2. I can only buy feathers by the bag, and I don’t need that many. So, what did I do? I turned to Etsy, of course.

After a few minutes browsing through pages (and pages!) of feather fascinators on Etsy, I found one that fit all of my criteria: Feathery, not too big, in our wedding colors, with a sparkly center and no pearls- you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find bridal hair accessories with no pearls- and under $50. I found all that in a fabulous little fascinator by Etsy vendor Jenny Pickle.

Let me tell ya, not only does she have some amazing things in her store, she also does custom orders, and her accessories are completely affordable. Oh, and did I mention that she is so great to work with? She took all of my requests into account and had it to me in no time! Before I show you mine, let me give you a little glimpse into the amazing pieces that she makes:

Will you be rocking the fascinator at your wedding? With or without a veil?

LOL! I bought it at first too! “Whaaaaat? Why would you want peacock feathers on your eyeballs for your weddi…oh, phew!”

Now the feathery fascinators, on the other hand, are fabulous. :)

Hah, I love feather eyelashes, and my only comment was going to be to warn you that they can be kind of heavy. Ok, I guess the hair feathers are a bit more bridal though.

Seriously, you had me going at first, too. No fascinator for me, just little flowers. I love the one you got though and have me wanting one!

You had me going for a moment too but seriously those feather eyelashes are amazing looking! Well maybe not for most weddings but I still love them. Thanks for sharing your Etsy girl as she has some really beautiful pieces.. soft and feminine. I love that touch of light pink!

My eyes were so wide about the feather eyelashes! Then I read on, and felt dumb.

Love your fascinator!!

I’m a little disappointed about the feather eyelashes :). But, I love the idea of a feather hairpiece!

How beautiful I love the touch of pink! I’ve never really considered feathers for anything other than down pillows, but I am really intrigued by the feather wedding idea! I REALLY love that peacock feather hairpiece! It’s so Carrie Bradshaw :-P

Yes! I am wearing a veil for the ceremony because my mom wants me to. Then for the reception I am taking it off and rocking an Etsy feather fascinator as well!

Also, I thought of you yesterday (not to be creepy!) because Lucky magazine (January) had a Clarie Danes Romeo&Juliet-inspired page, and they had an AMAZING feather capelet from Topshop.

I tried to find it on their website but I couldn’t find the exact one. There is this though!

This is what I am debating right now! I want to wear a veil for the church and something different for our outdoor reception. Naturally, a fascinator would be a good option for the reception. My only concern is do I wear the fascinator under the veil or after I take off the veil?

Haha, I was thinking (about the eyelashes): “Oooh that Rainbow is fierce!” I love these pieces. I need to get me to her etsy store post haste!
