Mrs. Ramen's Picture
Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.
About Mrs. Ramen

Sneaky Sneaky…

December 7th, 2009 @ 12:06 pm by Mrs. Ramen

Miss me? I swear I’m the worst bee… I didn’t mean for this to happen, but I now COMPLETELY understand why some bees disappear ~ 2 weeks prior to their weddings… I am exactly at that point (just under 2 weeks), and I’m a weeeeeee bit stressed.

So, let me make some excuses, like:

  • Mr. Ramen and I just moved into our *new* apartment!!! This will be our first time living together, so we are suuuuuuuuuuper excited, and I can’t wait to play house with all of our new kitchen stuff. Since Mr. R is finishing up his internship/job in AZ, I am left to setup our new nest alone. It is a bit intimidating to weed out all of the old household hand-me-downs from my mom that I (and my sister) have used throughout college, to make room for all of our new registry toys! I’ve been packing up/moving/unpacking over the past week, in between classes and labs. Phew!
  • I have 3 exams and 3 proficiencies to take by next Tuesday. It actually wouldn’t be so hectic IF I didn’t have to reschedule my exams and proficiencies for next week so I can try to RELAX before the wedding. Needless to say… school is keeping me a bit busy. Yes, I think my school is determined to kill me. They are currently winning.
  • I had my Phoenix shower and my second bachelorette. Call it old age, or maybe I have no stamina, but all of these parties (which I loved and appreciated very much!) exhausted me. I can’t hang anymore.
  • Wedding “crap”. This is the stuff that needs to get done, but keeps slipping through the cracks. I usually remember them while doing something else, which makes me go, “Crap! I still need to pay the florist!” etc.
  • The usual “can’t do it until last minute” wedding stuff, e.g. reception seating, programs, gifts, last minute arrangements/rentals/payments, etc…

I actually hate giving excuses but I kinda just wanted to vent. And hopefully you won’t think I’m that huge of a slacker, still.

Anyways… this post is actually about, duh duh duhhhhhhhhhh…

Registry stalking.

Sneaky Sneaky... : wedding registry Stalker stalker

I do it. We all do it. Admit it. So, to begin with… registering was actually one of the most stressful things we’ve done. Crazy right? See, I have crazy amounts of gift guilt (which I’ve dealt with). I am the type of person who will never tell people what I want because I get guilty that they are spending money on me, so I just buy things for myself. The exception would be with Mr. Ramen, but of course. Anyways, that, and I always do tons of research when I buy appliances, SO…

I basically researched via Amazon reviews, consumerreports.org, and epinions.com. So I finished registering and… I dunno what prompted me to do this, but… one night… in the privacy of my own room, I looked up our registry, just *wondering* if anyone had bought us gifts yet.

Someone had bought us our Cuisinart Brew Central coffeemaker from BBB. I excitedly called Mr. Ramen to share the good news. A few days later, our Silpats (I’m a baking enthusiast) were gone and I was hooked.

I tried to keep myself from checking it every day, so at first I limited myself to a little peek every few weeks. It was so hard to keep myself from stalking! I know! So… I finally got busy with school and forgot about it… until my shower when a few of my friends told me that I needed to ADD MORE stuff to my registries. Uhm, what? OKAY!

Since that point, it’s pretty much been a stalking free-for-all, especially when school gets rough. It cheers me up. I know, I know, so superficial! Shame Sneaky Sneaky... : wedding registry Blush01 blush01 . Anyways… at least I’m honest. It’s still cool, because even though I know WHAT we’re getting, I don’t know WHO we’re getting things from.

And in the past few weeks, the Ramens keep getting tons and tons of packages at our parents’ homes. Hehe. This Christmas is going to be the best (which means every Christmas afterwards will be less exciting, I guess?), since we will probably open all of our wedding gifts around that time. Woohoo!

This was my pre-Thanksgiving shipment. Apparently this is nothing compared to the stack that awaits us…

Am I the only stalker out there? Anyone else reveling in all of their new house goodies?

Oo0oh, I’m jealous! The downside to a small wedding- not nearly as many gifts! However, I consider it a gift that we don’t have to shell out $ for a bunch of people, lol. It’s a give and take, I guess. ;)

I still have about seven months to go, and someone just bought up a couple sets of dishes. I never thought I could be so excited about dishes! I love the fact that I don’t know who they are coming from either. I love it!

:-) Mr P has that coffeemaker- we love it! We’re such registry spoilers- we buy great stuff for ourselves before we even have a chance to put it on the registry.

I’m a total stalker, even though we are still, ahem, 3 months away. Someone did buy my stand mixer though, so I feel a little justified. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself..

I was the same as you Ramen! I was super good about not stalking the registry until I got yelled at by my grandmother because there were “3 things left to buy”. Actually there were like 10, but whatever. After I re-updated the registry and added like 50 more things, I checked it daily. Yes, I was ashamed. But yes, it was fun!

I was so proud of myself — I didn’t registry stalk, at all! I found it was disappointing to open gifts that I already knew were coming. But to each, his own!

I stalked some before the showers, but forgot to stalk close to the wedding. It was fun getting all that stuff. We went to registry comp;etion on BBB last night.

So exciting! It was different for us, since we did a Honeymoon registry. Our gift pledges came in pretty close to the wedding, presumably b/c people weren’t “competing” over which items to buy. But still fun to stalk the registry, nonetheless!
Don’t worry about keeping up with posting too much right now, Miss Ramen. We all know things are crazy for you. Looking forward to seeing your post-wedding posts!

That coffee maker was our first wedding gift. Since my shower, we get 1-2 boxes a day in the mail. It is a little overwhelming but awesome too!

I was a HUGE (and admittedly) registry stalker! Everytime something was bought, I called up DH and told him!

Good luck with all your upcoming stuff, cant wait to read the recaps :)

It’s so understanding that you’ve been missing, and I’m glad you stopped by to vent! Things really do get crazy right before the wedding. And yup, I did stalk my registries. In fact, we still look back at them from time to time just to remember what we did or didn’t get because we go out and get ourselves something from the list. :)

I stalk under the guise of “making sure that nothing went out-of-stock”. I’m sure I’ll justify it even more when things start arriving and I have to stalk “to make sure there’s enough selection”. :-)
