Something Borrowed

December 7th, 2009 @ 1:46 pm by Mrs. Cheeseburger

So, Audrey is here, and she’s fabulous as you might have heard me say (a million times). But something I haven’t yet talked about is the equally-fabulous veil I’m wearing during my fitting:

Something Borrowed : wedding veil Dsc0347

The beautiful veil belongs to my beautiful mother:

Something Borrowed : wedding veil Mom Gorgeous bride, gorgeous dress, gorgeous veil! :) And she is letting me borrow her veil for my big day!
You may notice that her veil has a juliet cap. While it’s very pretty, I asked if she minded if we took the veil off of the cap for me to use, and she was OK with it. The veil was actually only very loosely stitched to the inside of the cap, so it came off very easily. It should also go back on very easily, as Cheeseburger SisterMOH insists she will wear the veil with the cap for her wedding (we’ll see). :)

I am so happy to have something of my mother’s that is so beautiful to wear on my wedding day.

P.S. - Greg & Maryanne at Anne Gregory said that the Alencon lace on the veil was in wonderful condition, and that a veil of its kind in the store would cost about $800 - score! :)

What is your something borrowed?

That is so awesome and beautiful! I wish I could borrow my mom’s but she lent it out to family members after her wedding 30+ years ago and never got it back.

So beautiful!! I’m going to borrow my mother’s perfume. She’s worn it everyday since her sister gave her a bottle as a present when I was born. My parents didn’t have a wedding, so she didn’t have any “bridal” stuff for me to borrow… but then I had this idea and it made me really happy! :)

So pretty!
I recently asked my mom whether I could borrow her veil… we’ll be breaking it out of the box over the holidays to check out the condition. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

My mom has a very similar veil (except her cap is more nun-like..) and I’m toying with doing the same thing you did. Yours looks really beautiful!

So beautiful! My mother’s veil is not in great condition, but we are in the process of locating my FMIL’s veil - which was previously worn by her mother, so its a bona fide heirloom of my new family! I think its a wonderful gesture to wear a veil that belonged to someone special to you!

Pretty! That’s awesome that you get to wear something your mother was married with, too. My something borrowed is Mr. N’s grandmother’s earrings (mentioned in one of my previous posts).

Love the pic of your mom and the look of it with your dress! I’m using my mom’s veil too - we’re getting it restored - it’s been in the attic since 1975!
Can’t wait to see it over Christmas and now I’m excited to see your complete look too!

I wore my mom’s veil too! Except it was even more special because she passed away when I was 12. Nobody in my family knew where her dress & veil were but when we got engaged I got a call from her best friend growing up who said that she had borrowed it for her own wedding and forgot to give it back. It was so meant to be!!! I found out the day of my wedding that her mother had actually made it for her and recognized it the minute she saw me (she has parkinson’s disease now so that was huge for her) I will always cherish my mom’s wedding pictures and so happy I was able to have a part of her with me on that day!
