Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
About Mrs. Spaniel

Yesterday, a UPS package was waiting for me on my desk chair. I was expecting a shipment of eyelets for our programs (a story for another post!) and some gold pens for other projects. But the box was kind of on the large size for pens or eyelets, so with great curiosity I opened it. Then I closed it again so I could take a picture of it for you.

As it turns out, what was inside was Part 1 of the bridesmaid’s gifts! When we left off, I hadn’t decided between a moderately expensive (to me) pashmina for each girl, or a collection of more bridesmaid-y gifts. And lest the designation confuse you (as if Part 1 lended itself to a lot more parts)—I still haven’t decided. But even if I went all out on the cashmere, I still need something to put the gift in, don’t I?

The answer to that question is yes, I do need something to put the gift in, especially something this cute! For $6.99 each, I had a canvas bag printed at VistaPrint with each girl’s first initial and a cutie-patootie bird pattern. Is it in our wedding colors or does it match my “theme”? Nah hell, no. Do I think it’s adorable and would I like it? Yes! And since that’s basically my criteria, I went for it. And let me tell you… it was hard not to order a sixth one for myself. ;)

Anyway, they came out really nicely, and I look forward to dropping a lovely pashmina in each one to distribute at the rehearsal dinner… or maybe something else? Only time—and me, of course, eventually—will tell!

What a cute bag! And thanks for the reminder that not ev.ery.thing. has to be in our wedding colors, ha! Blue is my favorite color, but sometimes I find myself wistfully staring at a nice green or purple then thinking - no! Not a wedding color! Maybe I’ll expand my range in bridesmaids gifts too! Your criteria for the gifts are perfect.

My bridesmaid gifts totally weren’t in our colors either. Purple isn’t any of their favorite color! And frankly, I got a little tired of purple by the end ;)

I ordered an extra bridesmaid gift for myself :-)
They each got custom monogrammed jewelry rolls, and I just couldn’t help myself!

How’s the quality of the bag? I was thinking of doing something like this myself!

@LittleSpitfire: It’s a pretty sturdy canvas… I haven’t put anything heavy in it yet, but it seems like it would hold up reasonably well for anything that actually fits inside it. :)
