Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
About Mrs. Spaniel

Truth? I knew I couldn’t limit myself to just a shawl, even if it was a high quality one and even though people I polled generally thought it would be a better idea than a collection of smaller things. I’d already started looking into individually selected brooches, wanted to get different bridesmaids different things that I knew they would each love (etc.), and the idea of already going $20 or more over my budget per girl (over $100 total, and likely more since there was no way I would not order myself a lovely pashmina as well!) while getting fewer cute things was sounding less and less appealing to me!

With this thought in mind, I visited Etsy seller ClassyWedding and found black paisley shawls in the same size I would have ordered for beaucoup bucks, but for only $20 each. Score!

I’ll let you know how they are when we get them. In the meantime, I’m super jazzed I get to have fun shopping for more goodies for the girls!

How did you approach bridesmaid gift giving? Did you set a budget, or just buy them things until the gift seemed “complete”?

I’ve set myself a budget (if I don’t have one, I seem to just keep spending because I’m always finding super cute things!). I think for the girls, my budget is about $75 per maid.

I love the idea of a shawl. If I wasn’t getting married in July, my BMs would get them, too!

I got my shawls from Classy Wedding, they were gorgeous and soft, and looks pearly and beautiful in the pictures. I got a light yellow one for myself and charcoal ones for my BM’s.

They came folded and were incredibly wrinkled, so my mom ironed them (using a sheet as a buffer) and they looks great! My BM’s loved them and still wear them when they go out in cooler weather ^__^

I don’t know why, but twice in the same post I typed “looks” instead of “looked” hahaha

Shoot, you should have asked one of the NYC bees to pick you up a few pashminas in chinatown! Those usually go for about $5 (cheaper if you’re buying a bunch).

That is awesome that you got a great deal! Hopefully they’re awesome in person. I love little gifts … and personalizing bridesmaids gifts for each bridesmaid is a great idea!
