Hive, I’ve been holding out on you. I have been keeping a secret so huge and exciting that I thought that I would burst before I could tell you. But the day is finally here, so get ready to hear what is (in my opinion) a great love story on par with Romeo and Juliet or Anthony and Cleopatra (sans the suicides).

In order to give the story justice, we must go back in time to the early ’80s in communist Poland, where a beautiful young woman laments the loss of her sweetheart, whom she hasn’t seen or heard from in months. They had a fight the last time they talked, and she assumes that the boy has moved on, or wants nothing to do with her. She decides to forget about him. That New Year’s Eve, she meets a dark-haired and handsome man and they began to date. This new man asks her to marry him within a few months of meeting, and the girl - disillusioned with love - agrees. She believes that this man is reliable and kind; the perfect man to father her children. They marry within 6 months of meeting, and the girl sheds some not-so-happy tears during the ceremony.

At around the same time, the original boy is sitting in the army barracks. Military service is mandatory for all men, but his original 2 years of service has long come and passed. He was hoping to clear the air with the girl as soon as he got his release - he wanted to apologize to her in person.

Unfortunately, because of martial law, he has been retained in the army for a longer time, and stationed in a secluded forest. There is no post office in the area, and he has no way of contacting his beloved. Upon finally getting his release, he learns that the girl is getting married. On the day of her wedding, he gets in his car and drives around aimlessly, hoping to run into her.

Fast forward to last year. After over twenty years, immigration to Canada, three children, and a relationship void of much affection, the girl (now woman) and the dark haired man decide to go their separate ways. The divorce is far from amicable, but all parties involved, including the children, understand that it is for the best.

Meanwhile, the boy (now man), sits at his brand new computer - one that he barely knows how to use - and logs on to the Polish version of Facebook. He finds the girl’s profile, and decides to add her to his friends list. He has no idea that the girl is now single, even though he went through his own traumatic divorce several years back.

The boy and the girl reconnect via the magic of the Internet. After the first couple of emails, the girl tells her (adult) children that she is conversing with someone special, and gushes about how wonderful he is. The children (her two daughters in particular) are very excited, because they have been encouraging her to date for some time. They find it a little bit strange that their serious and stern mother is all of a sudden acting like a giddy 16 year old.

After a couple of weeks, the boy flies the girl out to Poland. They meet face to face for the first time in almost 20 years. After that first meeting, the boy and girl take turns flying from Poland to Canada every couple of months. They email and talk on Skype for hours each day.
