Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
About Mrs. Spaniel

Children and Puppies

December 9th, 2009 @ 6:21 pm by Mrs. Spaniel

One of the unusual perks of our venue is that it allows dogs on-site—in fact, it has two resident dogs! And you do realize what that means, don’t you? More time with the Chelster!

Chelsea doesn’t like to have her picture taken

Chelsea is pretty much one of my favorite living things, and we could actually bring Chelsea to the wedding! Even though we won’t have children at our wedding (mostly because there are no children in our families yet), we could, in fact, have a ring bearer! Or maybe she should be a flower girl? Of course, it would be a ring bearer (or flower girl) who walked half-sideways, and would probably try to jump on my dress during the ceremony, and might bark at anyone who didn’t want her affectionate attention, but still!

Chelsea refuses to face the camera unless I first face the wrath

Or… maybe not. Maybe a hyperactive, excited and excitable, black long-haired dog isn’t the best wedding guest. And maybe some of our guests would be offended by an animal participating in the ceremony, or trying to jump on them from the aisle. ;) But a girl can dream, can’t she?

It’s an ongoing debate around these parts. Mostly, I debate and Mr. Spaniel says, “whatever you want.” There is one thing I am certain of, though: if Chelsea attends our wedding, Chelsea is going to be dressed for it. ;) I wouldn’t want to embarrass her by putting her in an actual dress, but a fancy bow (in our wedding colors!) and garden roses along her collar? Yes, please! I’ve even found some cute wedding-themed doggie leashes in my search!

Did you incorporate animals into your wedding at all? Did you wish you could?

Aww, she is sweet! No dogs for me—I am very very allergic. Sadface.

chelseeeeaaaa!!! so unbelievably cute. yeah, i don’t think the pugs would do that well walking down the aisle either. maybe someone could carry her if she starts to get a little antsy?

Pets in weddings are such a cute idea, in theory, but probably way to hard to actually execute on. She’s a cutie though! And would look adorable in a fancy bow! :)

We debated for awhile (heck, I even wrote a post about it!), but decided to go for it on the end. It worked great!

So adorable. It worked for Star and Pengy! My pup would get really stressed, so I think we’ll leave her at home. I want her in my getting-ready pictures, though. : )

I would LOVE to have our K9’s as part of our special day. They are our family too! I hope you choose a creative way to somehow incorporate Chelsea into your special day :)

Our pooch, a Rott mix, was there for the whole thing, ceremony and reception. We designated someone to be here keeper during the ceremony (front row—that’s key, so she can see her ‘peeps), and then she was off leash the whole time for the reception. which she LOVED, since she wrapped every guest around her finger and got LOTS of food.
She also ran across my the train of my dress at regular intervals, but it was after the ceremony, and I didn’t care one bit. I’m not going to wear the dress again, she didn’t actually leave pawprints, and i was having too good a time to worry about it.

So cute! My uncle, our officiant, has a supersweet dog who is very attached to him, so Justice (Uncle’s pup) may accompany him to our ceremony (she’ll just lay down at his feet…awww). I actually think it’d be cute, and I want to get her a bridal-y bandanna or one of those leashes!

I would looove to have my kitties at my wedding! However, since one is a major scaredy cat with social anxiety issues and is a overly hyper maniac… it may not work out like it does in my fantasies. Chelsea is such a cutie!

I totally get that “whatever you want” response from my fiance all the time. I think that he thinks it’s helpful (since he’s letting me have my way). But sometimes I really wish that he would tell me his real opinion.
We have a pet bunny. I think he would just hop away if we tried to put him in our wedding though.

She’s a cutie!
My dog would never make it to a wedding. She can’t even leave our backyard, where she has an invisible fence, because she gets too excited about everything and tries to run away! I love her too much though. Perhaps I should tease the FI and tell him I want her in our wedding…she did make it in our engagement pictures…

My dog, Sparky, is going to be my ringbearer. OUr venue is pet friendly and I’m going to have him lead down by my little brother (who is a groomsman). I love him like a child–so why not?!

I would include our family dog for sure if we were allowed. She’s super well behaved and quite a bit older, so she’s not rowdy at all.

Awww- you really can tell how much you love that girl! Your name is so fitting Spaniel!

I always wanted to have my dog in the wedding- he got older and he’s not with us anymore but it would have been so special. I say go for it :)

Besides, how many flower girls/ring bearers have you seen that either had a tantrum, or were too scared to walk down the aisle, etc? And they’re so cute nobody cares. It’s just nice to have your family there, 2- and 4-legged!

@Miss Pug: Hm, maybe… she’s about 25 pounds and squirmy, though; it could go badly. ;)

@Miss Cola: We might stick her in the fancy bow, anyway, even if she’s celebrating with the ’sitter. ;)

@Miss Parfait: That is always a concern! She doesn’t like cars much and tends not to eat well when she’s in unfamiliar situations, so she might not enjoy participating much. :(

@skibobrown: I know just what you mean… sometimes I ask for an opinion because I actually need the feedback!

@Miss Lamb: That would really help… Chelsea is a jumper! I guess it’s part of her breed (the “Cavalier stretch”?), but that doesn’t make it less startling to people who might not be dog lovers. She gets really excited when she meets new people, and pretty vocal if they don’t pay attention to her right away, so I’m a little worried.

ohh do it do it do it! We had our TWO dogs as ring bearers in the wedding! I can give ya lots of hints, PM me if you want some pics and advice!

FYI - one is a chocolate lab mix, the other is a puggle, so about 70lbs and 25lbs. They both are boys, and both wore bowties

Some people were appalled that we had dogs there, but I had another guest tell the one person that had an issue to stuff it, and nobody would be appalled if she had her children there. lol it was pretty funny

Awwwww, I would love to have my 2 fur babies there with me, but I can’t exactly bring them to St. Thomas! Honestly, I don’t think one of them would do well in the ceremony though. If you think it would be tough to work her into the wedding, maybe just have her there with someone watching her in the front row?

I have two cocker spaniels. After lots of talks about it they are going to be in our wedding. Our girl is going to be a bridesmaid (in a dress!, but this dogs loves being dressed) and our boy is going to be wearing a tie. They will both be on leashes and walked by a bridesmaid or groomsmen. They won’t be attending the reception because they love food more than they love to listen to someone telling them to behave. I hope you include Chelsea!
