Mrs. Pug's Picture
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CA Age and Occupation: 33, Lawyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, ditto Engagement Date: July 2008 Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay About Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
About Mrs. Pug

I already posted a bit about choosing the paper for our save the dates. For the design, I wanted something simple and elegant. So, what did I end up with? Ducks. I mean, what else says elegance more so than ducks?

I wanted some kind of simple drawing/motif/symbol that would speak personally to us. Or at least to me, since Mr. Pug doesn’t really care. After some brain-racking, I came up with Korean wedding ducks.*

Save the Dates Phase II aka Nothing Screams Wedding Like a Duck : wedding cultural Img 044

Courtesy of me

In Korean tradition, a pair a carved wooden ducks represented the married couple, as it was believed that ducks mated for life (I’m pretty sure this is false, but it’s a nice idea). The position of the ducks signifies the state of the household. You place the ducks facing nose to nose when there is harmony in the marriage. However, when there is discord (say, after *someone* fibbed about having gotten you a Valentine’s Day present and “left it at the office”), the ducks face apart (in other words, with their butts facing each other, because when you’re mad at each other, farting on each other is acceptable).

Is there anything about your save the dates that represents you as a couple (or at least, the half of the couple that is doing all the work, ahem)?

* While Mr. Pug is not Korean, he watches Korean soap operas so I’m saying that’s sufficient for the Korean ducks to mean something to both of us.

Lol - oh Pug, you crack me up! Looking forward to seeing your ducky STDs. For ours, I chose our baby pictures in front of birthday cakes and a christmas tree because I’m short, we like desserts, and presents are superb.

I’m still playing with the nit-picky details of mine, but I have the overall theme. . . A Highway sign. At the top it will say, “Wedding Ahead” I just have to work out the rest of the details.
FI proposed while we were driving down the highway at the end of a romantical weekend where his original proposal plan fell through.

Our STDs are bookmarks. I was an English major in college and have 2 packed bookcases, plus several Rubbermaid containers in the basement with all my books. FH went along with it because it was my idea and I loved it.

At first I wanted to do silhouettes of us, but I decided it was too common (ha, common in blogland..) and did poodle silhouettes.

Now I’m realizing that it might be..weird. We don’t have one (but my parents do??) and well, weird.

So I’m just sort of slowly backing away from that project..

Cute idea!!! I love the concept of the ducks and how they’re facing eachother when happy but turned away when the couple is not…Can’t wait to see your STDs!

I can’t wait to see how you use these ducks!
Do both members of the couple need to decide which way the ducks are facing or does the man duck come home to a butt when he’s been out too late?

too cute! the chinese also use ducks (specifically mandarin ducks though) as a metaphor for loving couples/weddings because they raise their young together. :)

wahaha! I married a Korean Guy and we were gifted the Ducks! They are sitting on my nightstand :) and DH can tell if I’m mad at him if I position the ducks away from each other. Did you know that Ducks in real life are monogamous for life? :) love!

If we’re just thinking about representing the working (important) half of the couple, shouldn’t there be baskets of brioche, or something?

Can’t wait to see your ducky STDs! Our wedding stationary represents me much more than Mr. Cola, although he did rubber stamp all our envelopes at least!

I love the Korean duck tradition. There was a post on the boards a few weeks (months?) ago about it and I think it’s so awesome!

That cracks me up. I just get this image in my head of you getting mad at him for something random and then turning the ducks around and he gets home and he’s all “What’d I do?!”

Too funny!
