About Mrs. Pug

Shipping Charge: 1, Me: 0

December 9th, 2009 @ 10:50 am by Mrs. Pug

There’s a funny side story to my paper search: Limitedpapers, the company from which I purchased the save the date and invitation paper, is in Brooklyn. I was like, “HA! Brooklyn is not far at all, and particularly not from my office in lower Manhattan. I’ll go pick those babies up and save myself a shipping fee!”

So that’s how I found myself on a Friday afternoon, in 90+ degree heat, walking an interminable distance from the subway (it was midday and no shade), in business casual clothes, to warehouses and docks on the Brooklyn waterfront. You know, the kind of place where at night you might see Vinnie with a chair and baseball bat waiting for you.

The location was a true warehouse. Super-wide stairs, crumbling walls that revealed what I’m fairly positive was asbestos, and a “door” to the company’s space that rather looked like the gate to a maximum security prison.

And all this, while I was huffing, puffing, sweating and stinking. But I got my paper without a shipping fee! I saved $7! I am a saver! I am thrifty!!

It was a total waste of time. I have much, much less qualms about paying shipping charges since that experience.

Did you go to great lengths to save shipping costs or other associated fees while purchasing wedding items?

Ugh, I hate those NYC summer days where you’re schlepping around and sweating your behind off. Well, lesson learned I guess! :)

I would totally do that, after my intensive search for free shipping coupons online was a failure of course.

Haha, wow I can’t believe you did that just to save $7! I guess if you had known, you wouldn’t have.

Awww, hahahaha! $7! But hey, a penny saved is a penny earned, and you certainly had to earn it! lol :)

Glad Vinny didn’t get you ;)

Hahaha - great story. I would probably just pay for the shipping because I’m lazy. :)

Ha! That’s dedication - I usually do a search online for free shipping/discount coupons, but you went the extra mile! (or 10)

Oh, yes, definitely worth the experience. If not merely to encourage future wild shipping fee spending.

hehe! Way to save that shipping! I’m sort of doing that with our paper products, it saves money (but not time or gas) to go to different Michael’s stores to buy these 2 particular shades of paper (on sale or with coupons)rather than spend an extra $25 for shipping from Arizona.

Haha you totally sound like me! I’d definitely do something crazy like that to save $7.

Haha! I seriously plan my shopping trips so I can run all my errands when I’m in Delaware and not have to pay taxes. Hubby things I’m crazy, but I’ve saved like $30 yo!

Hey $7 is a lot of money :) You can eat lunch at Subway for less than that!
I’ve done similar silly things to say on shipping ;-)

But the subway was $2 each way right? So you really only save $3? Not to rub it in, because I’ve definitely spent more in gas than I would on shipping driving from place to place for bargains . . . LOL
