Mrs. Guinea Pig's Picture
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
About Mrs. Guinea Pig

Sunny Outlook

December 9th, 2009 @ 1:44 pm by Mrs. Guinea Pig

I love our venue (which I will tell you about soon!). One of the things that sold us on it was its proximity to the water (something Mr. Guinea Pig really wanted). Another added bonus is that we will have a fantastic view of the sunset over the Chesapeake Bay! Our ceremony starts at 6 PM, and thanks to the Navy’s handy ’Complete Sun and Moon data’, I know that sunset on our wedding day will be at 8:05 PM.

(taken from our venue’s website)

The sun will be fairly low on the horizon by the time our ceremony gets underway, and our guests will be facing the water (and sun). So while I’m super excited for the sunset, I’m a little worried about our guests’ eyes during the ceremony!

(And now I’m humming ’bliiiiinded by the liiight….’)

We are going to do two things to help this: 1) make a note of it on our website and encourage our guests to bring sunglasses, and 2) have a basket of inexpensive sunglasses for our guests to use (and take)! Sort of like the basket of flip flops at the reception (which we will probably also do):

Sunny Outlook : wedding favors Flipflo flipflo

(from Mrs. Coconut - love the yellow!)

but with lots of sunglasses:

(image from here)

I think I’ll pick up a variety of sunglasses, and maybe even some crazy ones for fun!

Sunny Outlook : wedding favors Crazy S crazy_s

(these are totally appropriate for a wedding, right?)

I’m thinking the Dollar Store will be a great option - that’s pretty much where Mr. Guinea Pig buys his sunglasses anyway (maybe I should call him Mr. Sunglasses Destroyer)!

I’d also like to write a funny note to put on the basket so guests feel free to take them, but what rhymes with sunglasses?!

I think the sunglasses basket it a great idea :)
I went to a wedding where the sun was in the guest’s eyes the entire ceremony, it wasn’t fun :-/

All I can think of is “trespasses” - probably not the direction you want to take a cute wedding poem.

I’m with ColaJae - go with shades

“Until the glow from the sunlight fades,
feel free to borrow a cool pair of shades”

That’s super cheesy, I know, but shades is a lot easier to work with than sunglasses.

And if you do go with shades:

For all you lads and lasses
to protect your eyes, put on these sunglasses

or something like that. sorry that’s lame.

that’s so thoughtful of you. i think people’s poem suggestions are great. all i could come up with was:

“while you stare at our cute asses, why don’t you put on some sunglasses?”

[...] Nippy we can handle, but would it be too dark for our evening ceremony?  Well thanks to one lovely Weddingbee blogger, I found the United States Navy’s complete sun and moon data website!  All I had to do was [...]

Very smart! We’re getting married at sunset, too but I hadn’t thought about what direction they’ll be facing in regards to the sun. Now I have to find out. Poops, another thing to add to the never ending list.

We’re tying the knot after finding “the one”
Use these sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun!

–or–

Don’t be blinded by the light
Use these sunglasses & protect your sight!

…haha, this is fun.. I missed my calling as a greeting card writer ;)
