Can it really be true? Are we finally coming to the end of this super long drawn-out DW saga?!? If you’re breathing a sigh of relief, it’s ok… so am I. This has been a looong time coming, yo!
The last little story I have to tell you is about our sorta fabulous honeymoon. No wait, I’ve got that wrong – it was totally fabulous but only a ’sorta’ honeymoon.
What am I talking about? Well, you see, since we got married in the Dominican Republic, one of my many pre-wedding dilemmas started out being where we would go on our honeymoon and turned into whether we would go anywhere at all!

We never did get the newlywed banner put on our door but that didn’t stop us from posing in front of someone else’s.
You see, once we started looking into it, I found out that inter-island travel in the Caribbean is not exactly the easiest thing to plan. Most places required us to fly out to Miami and then back to the islands which seemed kind of silly, and any options that we found for local airlines either didn’t serve the DR or didn’t go where we wanted to go. Seeing me get frustrated, Mr Breezy casually threw it out there: “What if we just stay in Punta Cana? I mean, it’s going to be pretty nice there too, and it’s all sort of the same, isn’t it?”
Hmm well maybe… but it wasn’t entirely about going somewhere new, it was about spending time together alone! Er… right? I guess so… But the more we thought about it, the more we realized that we were lucky to spend plenty of time with each other on a regular basis. What we didn’t get to do was spend a lot of time with our friends and family who live all over the globe, most of whom were in Punta Cana. So that’s why we decided to spend our honeymoon at the same resort we had our wedding – having fun with all our friends.
It turned into our FUNny-moon! (Har har I kill me. Aw fine it’s lame… just go with it…)

That’s the room we moved to for our funny-moon. Not bad, eh?
It worked out pretty awesomely. Though some had random departure days, most our guests fell into three groups – a Vancouver group, a Calgary group and a Montreal/Toronto group – which all left on different days. This meant we got to spend lots of time with everyone – more than we had before the wedding, that’s for sure.
We shopped, we tanned, we lounged, we danced, we swam, we laughed and just, well, enjoyed everyone’s company.

By the end of the week, all our friends had left and we finally settled down for some cozy romantic time complete with hot tub, bubbly and…

… a third wheel?!?
Haha! I lied – all of our friends had left except for two of our very bestest buds from Montreal, J & K, who were still there for a couple more days. We rarely get to hang with them so we were totally psyched.

Can anyone say DOUBLE HONEYMOON?

A couple days later, the weather took a turn for the worse but that didn’t dampen our spirits nearly as much as the realization that it was time for J & K to go. We would finally be all on our own for three whole days.
We’d gotten so used to being there with everyone, I admit it was quite lonely to be ‘left behind’… especially in the rain.

But we did our best. When the sun came out, we played chess on the daybeds…

… and caught some rays.

And when it turned nasty, well, mojitos on the patio with a good book was still a darn good vacation if you ask me.

And when we got tired of everything else, we ate!

But however much you may want time to stop in moments like those, it never does. All too soon, our day of departure came too. And wouldn’t you know it, the sun decided to come out to say goodbye.

We packed our bags which somehow didn’t feel much lighter than they had on the way down, despite having gotten rid of 40 OOT bags. Hmmm.
But one thing that did feel heavier was our hearts. But not heavy sad… more like heavy-full—of all the amazing memories we had made.
Bye bye Punta Cana. We will never, ever forget our glorious celebration of love, laughter, family and friends!
