Mrs. Nachos's Picture
Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. Thomas Age and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & Hairstylist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer Engagement Date: May 22, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.

First Look Photos

December 10th, 2009 @ 10:48 am by Mrs. Nachos

I know I’ve said it before but I spend A LOT of time looking at wedding blogs and inspiration online. I think Mr. Nachos is the only person that has even an inkling of how much I wedding-blog stalk. Anywho, now that we’ve established my level of crazy, I have to say that up until now, I’ve never been huge into wedding photography and usually skip past anything wedding photographer-related unless the pictures are really, truly amazing things I’ve never seen before. However, there’s something about first look photos that get me every time.

So there I sat, reading blogs, and I found myself tearing up at my desk when I saw these (could have been the pictures with a little added PMS, but bear with me) - photos taken the first time the bride and groom get to see each other on the wedding day. Here are a few pics that would have made me cry like a baby if I was at home… lucky for Mr. Nachos, this time I wasn’t…

This picture is just too sweet…

There’s something about photos that capture that first moment the bride and groom see each other that just makes me teary. It’s just such a sweet romantic moment and I’m definitely a sucker for romance! I can’t imagine how I’m going to react when it’s my turn, especially considering the fact that pictures of total strangers can make me cry like a little girl. I get a little flutter of excitement and nervousness in my stomach thinking about seeing Mr. Nachos on our wedding day for the first time. It makes me giggly thinking about the look on his face when we catch our first glance of each other; it’ll be a moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

… great, now I’m all verklemmt. Tissue please!

What do you expect your first look will be like? Romantic? Goofy? Emotional?

I think our first look will be a mixture of all three. The Mrs.-to-be and I have to go to Connecticut to be married first for legal purposes (thanks to NYS Senate for not passing the marriage equality bill), but are considering our NY ceremony and reception our actual wedding day. Although we will already be married, there is something about getting all dolled up, and seeing each other for the first time in our gowns that makes me float on air. I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!

Our first look was INCREDIBLE. He waited for me on a bridge over a lily pond, and it was magical. I will never forget the look on his face when he saw me, and I was SHAKING I was so excited. The pictures are just amazing, they capture the emotion of the moment so well.

If I can make one suggestion, make the first look about just the two of you…dont have the rest of the BP or parents there. Friends of mine did it and totally regretted it (In retrospect, I would have regretted it as well) because they felt like they had to almost put on a show to keep expectations in check. With ours, the photographers were pretty far away with a zoom lens, so it was really just the 2 of us (and 2 strangers watching from a balcony lol, but we ignored them :) )

I love those photos! I don’t think we will be doing the “first look” (my family is very traditional), but I cannot wait to see his face. I will probably be very giggly.

I love the pic of his face when he first saw me, priceless! I just remember that i kept saying, ugh I’m so hungry and being really crabby due to my hunger and the crap weather we got. But to finally let him see me in my dress was wonderful :)

Such sweet photos! Did you have to convince Mr. Nachos to do a first look, or was he always on board?

@Miss Guinea Pig: No convincing necessary! We have our good photog coming as one of our guests so between him and the photographer in our contract, we should be able to get some great shots!

@KellyV: Thank you for the great advice. I totally agree we should keep it just us and make it our moment to remember.

Photos like these have inspired us to do a first look while in the past there was no way I thought I would let him see me prior to walking down the aisle.

Oh I’m so excited. I love looking at these pics to, totally with you on the web-stalking.
We’re planning on doing a first-look. My parents are hesitant, but I think it’ll make the day flow so much better.

That said, I’m scared that my expectations for his reactions are really high…
