Gifting the Groom: FAIL.

December 10th, 2009 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Cheeseburger

Inspired by this picture, created lovingly for her mister by the wonderful Mrs. Kitten:

Gifting the Groom: FAIL. : wedding diy gift ideas 00601

I thought, ‘what a nice idea! How hard could that be?” Well, it turns out it’s not hard to accomplish, but very hard to do it nicely - my results are below:

Gifting the Groom: FAIL. : wedding diy gift ideas Img 809

To me it looks like a kindergartner’s writing. I’m going to give it to him anyway, but I mean, it’s pretty frightening. I do like the quote though - it’s from our first dance song (Beach Boys). :)

Have any of your DIY projects gone terribly awry?

I also tried to do this, and failed MISERABLY! It just looked awful. I’m going to talk to a friend who has a Gocco and print the quote and our logo on the handkerchiefs as well, so it doesn’t look like scribbles and knots the way mine did.

Awww… I think it’s very sentimental though. I love handmade gifts like that.

I recently started embrodering things by hand as well, I just finished up the lining of a purse with my MOH’s first inital. It gets better as you go along - so keep trying!

I still like it! Trust me, the handwriting could be a whole lot worse. Some of my students could make you realize your stitching could be perfect handwriting examples!

i don’t think that’s “awry” at all–it’s super cute and sweet!

It looks cute! I think your problem might be that you used too much embroidery thread… there are usually six strands, you can separate them into two or three strands and with smaller stitches you will come out with something a little cleaner. Boys don’t ever notice such things though, and I’m sure he will love it!

Oh, I think it’s so cute! How sweet would it be to get something like that from him? That’s how he’s gonna feel about it.

I really like this idea! I might try to make them for all of the parents (the wedding is still 7 months away). Any ideas for good (but short) quotes for moms or dads?

Aww, I like it! It looks homemade. And if it makes you feel better, Mrs. Kitten had her cousin, who was experienced, make that for her. :)

I love it! And Mouse is right, I got way to optimistic about my ability to do a million things at the last minute, and that was definitely a DISE project! I think the writing on yours is really cute and whimsical. And that song is one of my faves.

I really like it and ditto Mrs Mouse and Mrs Kitten. I love that is is imperfect, cause really- aren’t we all and isn’t our love. I actually prefer it to the more professional looking one.

I was inspired by Mrs. Kitten too and made handkerchiefs for our moms. I just put the date on them… they are much more difficult than you think but so worth it!
The handkerchiefs were from the family too, so that made them even more special! I wish I had taken photos - but when you do things last minute things escape you…

Aw it looks so sweet! I love it! If you ever want to try that method again, it’s really useful to tape a piece of super thing construction or copy paper onto whatever you’re sewing. It gives you a firmer surface and doesn’t let the fabric bunch up and pull! Then when you’re done, you just (carefully!) rip the paper away and pull out the bits that get stuck under the thread. Little bit more work, but it’ll give it a clean look!

I think it looks great!!! Like others have said, I love that it’s imperfect…that’s what makes it homemade!
