Oh the Weather Outside is Yuck-o…

December 10th, 2009 @ 3:03 pm by Mrs. Nachos

…and my ring keeps getting stuck-o.

On my gloves, that is.

It’s official, it’s COLD! I pulled my gloves out the other day when we had our first snowfall here in Chicago, and I’ve discovered a slight problem. How in the world are you supposed to put on gloves and take them off gracefully with a ring on? Especially one with a high-profile? This is new territory for me ’cause I’ve never worn a piece of jewelry that I really cared about and tried to take good care of (most of my previous jewelry came from Target with a price tag of oh, $2). I’ve heard horror stories of people pulling off their gloves and the ring goes with it. Or bending a prong as they pull their gloves off. I got some suggestions from friends and this one from Miss Cola was my favorite…

Seriously, they’ve thought of everything! This handy-dandy golf glove comes complete with holes for your nails and your ring! I’m sad to say (OK, maybe not so sad), I will not be sporting these anytime in the near future. They don’t seem, um, exceptionally warm. Or terribly flattering. I think, thanks to another suggestion from our friend Miss Hammy, I may be buying myself some mittens in the near future. Genius.

How do you protect your ring in the cold weather?

Haha! Those would be perfect if you played a lot of golf =) How about wearing those round puff winter sleeve things that you just stick your hands in?

I searched for “winter hand warmer” and found the image above.

mittens all the ways…plus, you get to pretend to be four again when you wear them. j.crew has adorable ones: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/accessories/seasonal/PRDOVR~20159/20159.jsp

The way I wear gloves with my e-ring is by wearing gloves that are too big for my hands! That’s not on purpose though. I have teeny tiny hands and grown-up gloves are *always* too big for me — but kid gloves are too small, go fig.

I actually have that golf glove! HAHAHA! I bought it as a joke - but it’s actually awesome. I love it!

I always turn my ring around (diamond facing inwards) - that solves the getting the glove over my ring issue. And I just seem to have got into the habit of checking that it doesn’t come off with the glove

I have been having this problem the last few weeks! And I have a pair of GORGEOUS leather gloves lined with cashmere my sister got me for Christmas a few years ago. I’m not worried about it snagging or pulling the ring off, but sadly it actually hurts to wear the gloves because they are very fitted, and they smoosh my ring down into my hand. Sigh, I guess I’ll look for an alternate, and maybe bring back the leather gloves next winter on days I only want to wear my wedding band.

It’s a pain. I do sometimes turn it around so the diamond is by my palm, not on top, but I haven’t had to wear them too much to worry about it.

i don’t have to worry because I’m out in Cali now, but that glove is absolutely hilarious!

Carefully, carefully! I work in a lab, so I’m in and out of gloves all day long. Winter gloves are actually way better than latex/nitrile in terms of rings! Just practice taking them on and off, and always check that your ring remains on your finger after you take your gloves off. And if that still sucks, I second the many people above who suggested mittens!

oh that’s “hand”y. ha! they come up with everything. my solution is probably going to be not wearing the ring for a while because it’s already a little big, but that’s probably not the solution for most people.

I don’t wear gloves! I can’t function with them. I’m constantly dropping keys and other things. Maybe if I were more used to wearing them (like if we actually had a winter in Louisiana!) it wouldn’t be so bad. On the cold days, I stick my hands in my jacket pocket.

Gloves that I wear at work aren’t a problem!

I turn the diamonds to my palms, and every other day or so I hold it up to the light and tweeze the fuzzies out of it.

Ha, that’s hilarious! Texas doesn’t usually require gloves, so I’m just using my coat pockets to keep my hands warm.

This is something that I had never thought about before! My ring is pretty low-pro, and I don’t really wear gloves much, so I guess I’m lucky.
