Traditional cake toppers are pretty much a thing of the past these days. Most brides (& I guess grooms, if they care about that sort of thing) just choose a monogram, some swirly heart, or flowers (real or sugar) to top their cakes.
I really, really, really wanted something a little more traditional. I don’t know why, but I just did! When I first started looking for cake toppers, our honeymoon plans were to head to Disney, so these options seemed cute and fitting:
The precious moments one reminded me too much of my Communion statues, so that was out. And the wedding Mickey and Minnie? I just couldn’t see it for some reason… I thought maybe it was because it was so “bridal”.
That’s when I came across these:
The boat is so different, and it was actually Mr. Burger’s favorite, but in the end it was a little too big (like 8 inches long!). For me, well I just couldn’t get enough of the teacup! It’s so adorable, and even able to be personalized! I loved it. In my mind, I was convinced that this would be our cake topper, and that it would be able to be displayed in our future home for years - reminding us not only of our wedding day, but also our honeymoon!
But, things change. To put it bluntly,
Disney during the Easter season is a rip-off. It’s easily 1,500-2,000 dollars more for the same vacation taken one month earlier or later - an added expense we couldn’t justify, seeing as we’ve both been before and plan to go in the future (I’ll do a full post on our new honeymoon plans soon) .
Soooo, it was back to the drawing board, trying to find a new cake topper. I guess we could have kept the Mickey & Minnie statue, but I just didn’t think it would really fit in anymore.
I have always been in love with Lladro, and swooned over their gorgeous statues both online and in person (both Cheeseburger Mom and Mom Burger have some). They are gorgeous and creamy and shiny and wonderful…
(I like how this groom has lighter hair than the bride - it’s a combo that’s actually very hard to find!)
(ridiculously gorgeous and cute and awesome)

These beauties, however, are HUGE (like 9 inches tall) and EXPENSIVE (retailing between $600-800… and up.), so yeah, they were out.
BUT, then I found something so totally perfect: not too bridal, not too big, really, really cute, and even a little touch of Lladro:
Meet our cake topper.
It’s Nao by Lladro (basically a less expensive line) and it’s called “Together Forever”. Being huge dog lovers, I knew it was perfect the minute I saw it! I love that the wedding-ness is really understated, so it won’t look weird in our living room after the wedding. It’s also a really great size - 4 inches wide x 5 inches tall, so it will fit perfectly on our top tier, without overpowering the cake (or sinking into it). The colors are pretty neutral, so I think it will look pretty with the cake as well. Best of all? I got it at 50% off the retail price on eBay.
I’m glad I can finally cross this off my list!
What kind of cake topper are you using?
