Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. Thomas Age and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & Hairstylist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer Engagement Date: May 22, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.

Engagement Photos – What Not to Do

December 11th, 2009 @ 12:47 pm by Mrs. Nachos

Up until this weekend, engagement photos were not on our to-do list. I’ve seen lots of cheesy ones out there and really didn’t see a need for them. However, the wedding blog-stalker that I am got the best of me when I was looking through other people’s pics. Some of the photos that I saw were really amazing and I realized that the only pictures Mr. Nachos and I had together were in bars. Fun, but not terribly professional…

They were not exactly pics you could put in the local paper. Since the weather was so nice, we grabbed our Shermy and hit the beaches of Lake Michigan.

It started out a little awkward staring into each others’ eyes while strangers were walking by and our good friend Sherman was taking pics, but it definitely got a lot more fun as the afternoon went by. When we were satisfied with taking pics on every possible surface of that beach, we headed home, put the pics on the computer and began critiquing. Our Facebook friends have seen the best of the best, and now I’m going to share what not to do (this is absolutely nothing against our amazingly fantastic photographer, it’s completely about what we did wrong as amateur models)…

As much fun as it is, don’t molest your fiance during your photo shoot.

Funny faces. Not so funny. ‘Nuf said.

Engagement Photos – What Not to Do : wedding engagement pictures 51 5

Try to be cognizant of where the light is so you don’t end up with nose shadows…

…or creepy bird shadows on your arm.

Know your better angles… apparently I’m not the most graceful when skipping rocks.

And when your photographer is joking around and says “give me angry”, don’t actually do it.

This was definitely a learning experience, and when they say it’s a chance to get comfy in front of the camera, they’re not kidding! We had such a blast yesterday and I truly can’t wait to see what Sherman does for us at the wedding.

Did you get a lot of great outtakes during your engagement session? Are you compiling them in any way for display?

Hey, at least you guys were having fun together! Better than not having any outtakes at all :) I like them all anyway! Mr. Guinea Pig and I goofed around in ours too. I fake punched him on the shoulder once and our photographer snapped the shot right when it looked like I was going to punch him in the face! Oops…

Cute guys! “give me angry”, its normally the moment after fake “angry” that is the keeper, when both of you are laughing at the siliness of what you just did. I love engagement shoots, one of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer. Such a great way to get to know a couple before they get hitched, and a fun date!

Those are totally hilarious. One of the main reasons I wish we had done engagement photos was so that we could figure out what faces/poses worked for us.

@Miss Trail Mix: You are too sweet!

@mrs. guacamole: @LatteLove: The boots are actually from Target for $35! (they also come in a few other colors, too and they’re really comfy) Here’s the link to them: http://shorl.com/drabregrilosara

Oh, if any of you order the boots, get them a 1/2 size bigger than what you normally wear :)
