I wrote earlier with a little invitation teaser, and I think it’s time for a follow-up.
After DIYing our Save the Dates, though we were pleased with the outcome, we weren’t overly wowed. The quality of the printing left something to be desired, and it was actually a lot more work than I thought it would be! Cheeseburger Brother had to do a million drafts because I’m super picky, and then our colors were off when it came time to print, and we had to adjust at the store (I felt terrible putting that kind of pressure on my brother). All in all it just sort of became obvious to me that DIY invites, though potentially cost saving (though still not cheap if you plan to outsource your printing!) may not be in the stars for us.
Then I came across this post and was BLOWN AWAY by the couple’s invite. It was so colorful and bright and cheery and just dripping with love (come on, a tree with initials carved in it? so cute!). I tracked down the designer, and it was Kristy Rice of Momental Designs (a Weddingbee PRO!). As you know, she does gorgeous, customized, INDIVIDUALLY HAND-PAINTED invitations. What?! Yes. Individually. Hand. Painted. I was (basically almost) sold. Once I heard the price, however, I was definitely sold. For a very reasonable price, we are going to get a gorgeous invitation suite from a professional who (did I mention?) hand paints details on each invitation. Right.
So I have been working with Kristy and her assistant Kelley ever since, tweaking things here and there, and actually changing our original design all together.
Initially, we wanted the Vintage Stamped Tree (like the one in the inspiration post). It is beautiful - check it out below:

But in the end the romance and softness of their hydrangea invitation just totally won me over. I know, I’m a sucker. Luckily Burger, Cheeseburger Mom and Mom Burger are all great and basically say they love whatever I love.
So take a look at what we’ve got so far… on the left, a photo of the assembled hydrangea invitation and the outside of the pocketfold with what has become our “wedding quote” (”grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.” - from the sundial on Old Main lawn - you know, the building where we got engaged!).
Also, you know in the original picture, the one with the tree, where you see the actual hand drawing Kristy did of the sundial itself, quote and all? Well that will be making an appearance on our inserts which are currently in the works.
Since this picture was taken, we’ve done some layout changes and we’ve also adjusted the tag to match the hydrangea motif. I am so excited for the invitations for so many reasons - they are so pretty, they reflect our day and elements of our relationship, and they are not going to require any assembly on my part!
I’m so excited to see the final product, and I cannot wait to share it with the hive!
Has working with a particular vendor been a special experience?
