Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
About Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Have you ever found a photo of an item that is absolutely perfect for your wedding, but then you’re unable to find said item from the photo? Well, that happens to me all the time. For one, there is an unbelievable amount of talent around Weddingbee and the many blogs I read, and a lot of these talented women make the items they photograph. That’s just not an option for this non-crafty bride. Secondly, I always seem to be a tad bit too late to bid on an item, and then it’s gone. An example?

I searched EVERYWHERE for vintage table numbers, and then I found these. I was so excited!! Upon further inspection, I found out that they were for sale on the Weddingbee classifieds. Even better!! Um…yeah, they were for sale 5 months ago and are obviously not still around. GRRR… but now I have this perfect image in my head of the exact item I want and I can’t find it anywhere.

So I’ve come to you all my friends. Where oh where might I find vintage metal numbers that can stand up on their own? Also, is it totally sad that I spend my time Googling “vintage metal numbers”? I kind of think it is.

I say fake it! you could totally make it! At least it seems like an easy project…you could find precut wooden letters and attached them to a base..spray paint them a brassy color then spray them again in a metallic color and buff away a bit with steal wool.

or put in an Esty alchemy request, I am sure someone could make them

I was going to recommend an alchemy request as well. They seem like they’d be easy enough to make for someone with the correct tools!

Have you tried contact the seller to ask what the exact name of the item is? You might be able to get better results that way.
Or going with the diy route. Look for tiny wooden numbers at your local craft stores. Take basswood and glue to make the t-base then adhere numbers to it. Then spray.

Cardboard? That shouldn’t be too hard to DIY. With the right color paint, maybe no one will be the wiser! ;)

But I’d try different search terms. Maybe just “metal stand-up numbers”? I’m not sure, but @bluebutterfly and @Miss Dachshund are probably right: Alchemy.

I would go to Home Depot and check the house numbers they have. Anthropology does sometimes. I agree with above though, can’t find them then fake it!

That is so frustrating! I am having the same situation with trying to find a pair of shoes I saw and fell in love with and can’t find on google!

Umm I have some random numbers that look very much like those but they’re on a spike so you can stick them in a cake (or something else?) which is actually what I thought was going on in that picture until I saw your second photo.

@LittleWit:You would be a godsend if I could get my hands on some of them! I’m going to PM you to chat
@Miss Dachshund: Alchemy might be the way to go! I’ve had good luck with them before.

There’s a store in San Francisco that carries TONS of them. It’s called Timeless Treasures, and they could probably help you. The owner is LOVELY, and it’s one of my all-time favorite haunts!

Froyo, how tall are those numbers? I actually have a set of those that look EXACTLY like that, but I think they’re about 2-2.5 inches tall. I can’t tell how tall they are in the picture. PM me!!!

I definitely think that cardboard with some metallic spray paint could work. and the idea of the Home Depot house numbers is genius! Good luck!

Fro-Yo - Keep us updated on this one! I definitely would suggest an alchemy request as my top choice especially since you’re not a huge crafter!

Have you tried searching for house numbers?
They have these at restoration hardware (although they are not free standing)
