Stamps Are for Lazy People

December 11th, 2009 @ 5:56 pm by Mrs. Pug

Lazy people like me!

In my last post in what has got to be the largest number of posts that one can squeeze from their save the date creation, I want to quickly tell you about the return address. The idea of handwriting our address 30 times (not to mention the outer invitation envelope, RSVP envelope, and many mess-ups I’m sure will ensue) did not appeal to me. Yah, I know this number is way less than for most people, but please see “lazy” apart above.

I started looking into custom rubber stamps and came across Impress Rubber Stamps , which has been blogged about before on Weddingbee. They have a good selection of sizes, and I bought a 2″ x 3″ customizable stamp for $13.50.

All you have to do is, after placing an order, email them a pdf of the exact image you want on the rubber stamp. To determine what image (i.e. my address) to send, I used a really advanced design program called Microsoft Word, drew various boxes to represent the envelopes and experimented with different font types and sizes (downloaded for free from Urban Fonts) to come up with our final font size and style. For fonts, I was deciding between:

Stamps Are for Lazy People : wedding stationery Dayrom

and

Stamps Are for Lazy People : wedding stationery Cygnet

While the Cygnet is pretty, I went with Day Roman since I was a little nervous about the cursive font not coming out as well (although since then I have seen an Impress custom stamp that had many flourishes and looked lovely–dammit). In case any of you are wondering, I had made the executive decision to stamp our return address on the back flap of all the envelopes so that the return address font and the mailing address (done a la my handwriting) did not have to match.

Anyone else make a shortcut with the envelope addressing?

yes, we used a rubber return address stamp that we got for free from vistaprint. the nice thing was the ink pad was built in, so it was really quick and easy to use.

This is a great idea because you can reuse the stamp for a long time–no more messing with pesky address labels!

Word IS an advanced design program, lol. I love address stamps but as a roving apartment dweller I’m afraid I probably wouldn’t get enough use out of it before it became invalid. :P

I’d love to get an embosser with our address on it, but since we’re moving right after the wedding, it would be kinda silly to buy one and then have to buy ANOTHER one!

Yes I’m doing the same thing, but embossing it after stamping. I got my stamp at rubberstampchamp.com after reading Miss Hamster’s tutorial about DIY embossing. Sounded so much fun I had to try! HOWEVER, I can’t get the stamp not to bleed together once I stamp it! I called the company and they told me to design a new image and they’d send me a new one…but the replacement stamp also bleeds! (they have great customer service though) What am I doing wronggggg?
My FI is convinced this project just will not work, but I keep insisting I see others that have done it! Sad…..

I got a custom stamp for our address as well, and I’ve used it for mailing other than the wedding (like our Christmas cards) so I think that was a smart move!

I’m definitely going to go this route after reading a post on the boards! A stamp is such a lifesaver… especially when you think of STDs, invites, rsvps, thank you cards!

I really want to do that as well, but it’s kind of silly ’cause we’ll be moving soon after we get married. Sigh.

This is a great idea - and the price isn’t that bad actually. Even if we do end up moving soon after the wedding I agree with Ms. Potato Chips: work smarter, not harder!

ooh! we did! we did! I wish we’d looked a little harder for a font we LOVED, but we got a pretty good one, none the less.

I bought a return address stamp and just used our first names (since we didn’t share a last name yet) and also stamped the back of the envelopes. We got lots of use for invitations and thank you notes.

I think a stamp is a great idea to simplify your life. God knows you have enough on your plate- a stamp will definitely speed things up for you so you can enjoy being engaged more!

That’s so weird, I TOO use the same advanced design program ;)

I’m sure they looked great!

oh my goodness. such a handy idea — an address stamp! think of the myriad of uses other than for wedding invites, thus sucking even more useage per penny spent. Off the top of my head — personalizing your library, marking all your paper money, identifying your fiance…
