Mrs. Cheeseburger's Picture
Mrs. Cheeseburger, Baltimore, MD/State College, PA Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Student Engagement Date: June 28, 2008 Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Catholic Church Ceremony & Hotel Reception About Me: I'm a passionate girl from Pittsburgh, currently living in Baltimore for school, who loves Penn State, seeing movies, football, thunderstorms, black and white photos, Christmas, good beer, my amazing friends and family, and of course, my mister! We met, fell in love, got engaged, and will be married at our alma mater (go lions!) in a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a hotel reception with lots of DIY details. It means so much to have our families and friends meet at our favorite place on earth to celebrate our love for one another - I truly couldn't ask for anything more!
About Mrs. Cheeseburger

I have been meaning to write about our photographer for quite some time. She is totally awesome, and so “us” that I know we will make magical pictures together. :)

My quest for a fantastic photographer was long and tedious, but well worth it. I started by combing the internet, starting first at my go-to resource for all things Penn State Weddings, nittanyweddings.com. I also went through the Pennsylvania Wedding Photojournalism Association, theknot.com, and Wedding Wire, as well as good old-fashioned Google searches.

I bookmarked every photographer I came across - ones specifically in the Central PA area, ones in Philly and Pittsburgh, even some in NYC and DC who were willing to travel. Like many other brides, I was interested in a specific style - photojournalism. Lots of candid shots with plenty of post-processing for cool and unique effects. This is very popular, but can be expensive. Thus, another budget-friendly quest began.

I created a spreadsheet with column headings like price, location, first impression, pros, and cons. I went through each photographer’s portfolio and contacted them for pricing information if necessary. By using the spreadsheet, I narrowed my search from the initial 40 photographers down to my top 10. From there I got it down to 5. This is when I brought in Burger and our moms to help make some cuts.

We narrowed it down to the top three and I sent out some feeler emails to try to get to know them and their style. One photographer never responded. One group seemed kind-of overpriced. And one photographer was just right. Perfect, in fact. She and I chatted through email after email and a relationship emerged. I just knew she was the one. Amazing skills, great personality, and reasonably priced. It just clicked.

When we finally met this August, it was completely clear that it was the beginning of good things to come. She offers a variety of different albums, and is totally flexible on many of her services. We truly cannot wait to have her as a part of our day. We finally got to work together at our engagement shoot at the end of October (only 15 months late)! :) It was fantastic.

Without further delay, some of my favorite shots from a star on the rise, Jessica Ames:

Your photographer’s pics are incredible. I’m happy you found one that you clicked with cause that can make all the difference in the world!

I won’t meet our ceremony photographer until we get to St. Thomas, but our good friend that took our engagement photos is one of our guests and I absolutely can’t wait to see all the amazing photos I’m sure he will get.

Love the photos! We did the same thing when looking for a photographer here. I stalk their blog waiting for more pictures of other couples….they are one of my top vendors…I admit it, I have a vendor crush.

Wow! I just came across your blog today. I love your wedding dress - your photos looked amazing. I am also going to try the DIY bouquet and your idea about taking the non-traditional approach with photos before the wedding - shock horror!! Great blog! :)

Hi! Awesome, awesome and awesome photographer. You really nailed it down with this photographer. It looks expensive, but excellent, modern and classy ideas. I hope you can post your pix in here. You really have a great blog. I remember creating my own wedding website, it was at http://www.tyingsoon.com and we would post our prenup pictures in there for our families abroad. For those who couldn’t make it, they sent in cash to take care of the cost for some of our suppliers as our wedding present. I hope your wedding turns out really great! You have great choices and great judgment, I’m confident that your wedding will be perfect.

Jessica Ames is wonderful! I met her at the Bridal Expo they have at the Ramada Inn in State College. That was in February and she was just starting to break through in the area. Such a sweet heart! She must be doing well :)

I love following your wedding planning since I spent two years in State and go to all the bridal shows. I’m a photographer myself and I also want to start wedding planning (I had so much fun with my own…I just can’t let go of it all!)

Right now everything has kind of took a back burner since my hubby and I are expecting our first baby June 2010. But I am hoping to be back in the saddle very soon!
