In the words of Melville:
Whenever I find myself growing grim around the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially when my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people’s hats off—then, I account it high time to don the cheeriest, brightest cardigan I can find.
Okay, maybe that phrase about cardigans is a PChipz revision, but isn’t it true?
June in New England could be a scorch-ahh. But, it could also be wicked chilly. Or raining. Or maybe even a Nor-eastahh. It might—might, just maybe—be a sunny, temperate 70 degree day. But if it’s gray and I’m feeling grizzled around the edges, my plan is to grab a bright cardigan to cozy up in. Maybe even one adorned with a pretty flower pin or jeweled broach.
Plus, a snuggly cardigan will keep me in spirits high enough to refrain from knocking people’s hats off in the street.
In case of inclement weather, treating myself to a new cashmere sweater sounds enticing. But then I recall that I already own what might be the perfect cardigan. Remember the 2005 SJP Gap campaign? Anyone? Bought the whole outfit. Whole thing. Minus fedora.
A dry-cleaning and a fabric flower broach? That would be enough to put a sunny June back in my soul.
