(See what I did there? The puns begin already!)
Hey guys, you might have seen me around these parts before, non?
From now on, you all may refer to me as Scissors, or Miss Scissors if you’re nasty.
I was checking my email, doo-doo-doo. Just a normal email check. It’s not as if I were hoping for an email about my application. Me? Pfft. I nonchalantly opened my email, read it, gave myself a pat on the back, and moved along with my day.
Hah! As if!
I spastically checked my email, as I have been since I re-applied to Weddingbee, and there it was. An email from Peng, subject line “Weddingbee Application”. I closed my eyes as I clicked on it, and much to my surprise… I WAS IN. I shot off the couch like a rocket, squawked, and scared the living daylights out of the cat. I bolted to my phone, which was dead. HOW on earth could my phone be dead, now of all times?! I had people to call! I plugged my phone in, and… “Battery too low for radio use.”
I jumped to the computer, and frantically pounded an IM onto the keyboard to my dear fiancé. Who was not there. I had been running around in circles for a good 20 minutes, when lo and behold, Mr. S walked in with lunch. I screeched at him, “I GOT IT!!!!!” and then jumped on him. (Thank goodness he caught me.)
“Scissors? Do you want to be Mr. Scissors? Scissors good?!”
“Do they have a ’Howling Banshee’ icon?”
So, why did I go for the scissors? As an art kid, choosing one of the icons from the new patterns and crafts generation seemed only natural! But which one, which one… it came down to the scissors and pencils. I chose scissors because I can use them for ALL of my art projects, and I’m more of an ink-and-paint-ophile than I am a pencil-ophile. Plus, c’mon, how freaking awesome and hardcore are scissors? That’s what I thought.
I guess I should back up and tell you all a little bit more about myself and Mr. S. I was born in Atlanta and raised in Georgia, whereas he was born and raised in Waldacker, Hessen, Deutschland. We’re both still students—I’m an art major and he’s an electrical engineering and computer science double major. I paint large-scale portraits, photograph everything that gets in my path, and obsess over graphic design. He builds robots and may or may not be trying to take over the world. A pretty dynamic duo, I’d say.
We’re planning a fun, funky, over-the-top, whimsical, and technicolored wedding that’s infused with both of our cultures and everything we love. Every color in the rainbow? Check. Art and design galore? Yup. Giant paper cranes? Got it. 1,000 regular-sized cranes? There too. Bratwurst, bruschetta, hunch punch, tuxedos, and dancing? All over it.
I can’t wait to share more about the wedding with you all, and I am so, so, so excited to be introducing myself as the newest bee!
