Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

I’m sure you’ve all seen the mini infomercials on these by now (unless you live under a rock, or don’t watch TV):

Bumpits! I know, I know, the commercials are super cheesy, but these things work pretty well!

And they’re definitely better than the alternative of “ratting” your hair to give it extra volume. Mr. Cola bought me some for my birthday last April, and they’ve been great. I will for sure be using one with my half up/half down wedding hairstyle.

Here are a couple photos I took from an at home quickie trial. Of course, for my wedding ’do I’ll have my hair all curly, not just the tips, and will be using some flowers and different clips, but this will give a good idea of what the Bumpits can do.

Some before shots to show the regular flatness of my hair:

A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 36304 A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 36305 First, you take a chunk of hair at the crown of your head, pull it straight up in the air, and place the Bumpit on you head, laying the hair down over it. I used the smaller 3/4ths of an inch tall Bumpit for this demo.

A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 36306 I then swept back the hair on either side of my part, from just above my ears, covering the sides of the Bumpit, and secured it all with a small claw clip. Here are the results from a couple different angles.

A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 36307 A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 364 (gettin’ creative using mirrors!)

A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 36401 A Must Have (Hidden) Wedding Hair Accessory : wedding hair Img 36501 I like the smaller Bumpit, since I don’t think I could pull off the country western singer/pageant queen look of the taller one (nor would I want to!). I’ll definitely be taking a Bumpit to my hair trial (which I’ll share with you when it happens later this month!).

Have you ever seen a product featured in a cheesy infomercial that you HAD TO have? And what hair accessories will you be using for your wedding ’do?

I saw this in BB&B the other day and almost made an impulse purchase! I just didn’t know if it would work or not. Yours looks really cute though - maybe I’ll check into them again after the holidays.

I am completely enthralled (though I hate to admit it) by the Gazelle exercise machine and the Bullet food chopper. I’m really impressed with how well the Bumpit worked for you!

I thought that the bump it was the coolest thing and then I bought it, tried it, and didn’t like it! My hair is real fine and black so I had a hard time covering it! But I know it worked well for others! It looks good on you too Miss Cola

Never used a bumpit, but I’m no good at teasing, so maybe I should try it?

I might have to try this! I confess: I ratted my hair for my wedding.

Hubs makes fun of this commercial all the time, but I must admit I am intrigued by it. I may have to secretly purchase some for myself

“Ratting” is such an ugly word, I prefer “teasing”!! Bumpits look interesting but I would be worried about it falling out somehow or coming undone. I feel better about teasing…

My FSIL used one for her wedding in November, and it worked GREAT. She had her hair pulled off her face and floofed up (courtesy of bumpit), with the back in curls. It stayed really well - she wore it from 10AM to 2AM and, at the end of the night, her hub had to help her get it out of her hair.

My soon-to-be step-daughter wants Bump Its. I’m going to give them to her as a stocking stuffer. I’m so glad she asked for them, because I’ve really been wanting to try them and now I have an excuse! I am Southern, and we love our big hair. I “tease” or back-comb my hair every day, but only right at the crown for just a smidge of volume. My hair is thin and lifeless. I stopped using a teasing comb though…
I’ve been sucked in by many an infomercial. I have the Magic Bullet (which really does work well). I still want to order P90X, even though I know myself well enough to know I won’t use it (just ask Beach Body and Jillian Michaels - all those DVDs sit unused).

I totally bought a set for my sister as a pseudo-gag gift and she loves them!

So I bought a pair too. They are useful!

My hair is huge of its own volition. Do they make anti-bump-its, to make your hair smaller? I could use some of those! Your hair looks really nice with them in though :).

I love my bumpit! I really didn’t think it would work, and it was def an impulse buy at walgreens, but I love it!!

I want to try these so bad! My friend has some and we keep not having time to play with them, haha.

Lookin’ good there with the bumpit!

Bump its! I love them when my sister uses them. I need to get lighter colored ones because her black ones show up in my hair.

I tried bump-its but they really didn’t work for my hair. My hair is really fine and even if I put almost all my hair over the bump-it, the teeth show through and look funny.

They did feel very secure though…even with the hair not pulled up in any way and just hanging over the bump-it.

I just went to a Christmas party where we had to exchange As Seen On TV gifts and one of the girls got a bump-it. She has thick curly hair so she passed it along to another girl who had very thin hair and it looked great on her!

Bumpits… who knew?! BTW, if I could make my hair look as good as yours here by just curling the ends and using a bumpit, there’s no way I would hire a stylist for the wedding day. :)
