A Veil’s Details

December 16th, 2009 @ 5:27 pm by Mrs. Nachos

When I bought my dress and accessories, I had my hair up in a loose messy bun (pretty much my norm these days – 5:30AM workdays have killed my motivation to get up early and glam myself out). So when the saleslady put the flowers and veil in my hair, she stuck the veil underneath my poof.

I’m not sure what was going through my head, but I love my expression!

And I was never sure where to put my hands when trying on dresses. Ha, can someone say, “sexy”?!?

So, this guy walks into a bar…

OK, you get the picture. So the veil and flowers worked together nicely with the veil beneath the hair mess. The problem is that when I went back to David’s Bridal, they put the veil on top of my hair and I liked it more ’cause it made me feel more, I don’t know, bride-y? But the flowers didn’t work so much in the same place…

You can kind of see them peeking out on the right side of the pic but they got buried under the veil. I absolutely want to wear the flowers, because to me, they just scream beach-y (not to mention, my mom paid $45 for them) and I really want to wear the veil on top, but I’m just not sure if it will work. I need suggestions on where exactly to put the flowers if I wear the veil higher. This is funny, coming from someone who does hair for a living, I’m sure I’d have the answer if it were someone sitting in my chair. When it comes to myself, though? I haven’t a clue.

Any ideas?

Hmm, this is a tough one. I’d say do the whole ceremony to reception switcharoo, but since you’re not really having a reception, you need both together. It looks pretty good in that last pic. What did it look like from the side? I agree that the veil looks better up higher.

I am wearing my long cathedral veil for the reception with no other accessories. Then for the reception I am putting some flowers/feathers in the bun, kind of like how you showed first.

I’ve seen pictures with the flowers under the veil and I think it looks good (one is actually my inspiration hair picture). Especially if you plan to remove the veil for the reception, it’d be nice not to have to fool with putting the flowers in then. I think a little peek of flowers under the veil is nice.

I know that “bride-y” feeling with the veil! I was wondering what it felt like with the veil underneath. I think it looks really good both ways, but I would wear it under for the reception and over for the ceremony…if that’s possible. I don’t know what your hair plans are…

I think the veil over top looks fantastic! Have you thought about wearing the veil for the ceremony and switching to the flower for the reception…. that way you have the best of both worlds!

@tea: @Mrs. Dee to Bee: @Riley: @Miss Spaniel: Unfortunately, we’re not having a reception so I only have one shot. Luckily my sis and my best friend are both stylists so they hopefully will be able to strategically place them for me. I’d still love to be able to give them some direction though.

I did the same thing!
It isnt idealy positioned with the veill, i agree… however, I wore it semi under the veil during the ceremony (also, on the beach) and then ditched the veil after the first dance and it worked out perfect. there are photos where the flower is peeking out and its so fun, and no worries about switching or keeping track of. Just my opinion, but it worked out great and I wouldnt have changed a thing!

hmmmm…. well if your hair is in a bun-ish style, maybe towards the bottom side would look good. Although beach weddings can get windy and having the veil below like the first pics may keep it from blowing across your face (?)

I think it looks beautiful with the veil underneath the bun! But if you’re wearing it up higher, then I like mdarrah’s idea where it can peek out from under the veil. : )

I’d go with the switcharoo!

I can’t really tell from the pic, but could you possibly put the flower a little lower, almost near the nape of your neck, on the side?

could you put them above the veil comb, almost like it was adorning the comb? They seem small enough that it would look silly and then you can have the high veil and the flowers.

Miss Pug’s suggestion involving cocktails sounds good to me! Try out some different options at home with friends, they’ll give you a more honest opinion than the people at David’s will. Personally, I’m planning to only wear my veil (when I get one!) for the ceremony, with flowers under it in my hair, and then the veil is coming off to reveal the flowers at the reception.

I’m not sure how it would look but you could try to put the flowers under the loose, messy bun or however you do your hair and use the veil up higher (I agree, it does look more bride-y higher up). You might still be able to see the flowers underneath the hair, depending upon how thick the veil material is.
