Ms Potato Chips's Picture
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Narragansett Towers About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
About Ms Potato Chips

Scootaroo

December 16th, 2009 @ 9:40 am by Ms Potato Chips

When I grow up, I want to live in a little house in a quiet New England seaside town. I want a sun-drenched studio in which to write, a breakfast nook, and a really big tub. On mild fall and spring days, I’ll hop on a scooter and zoom down to my tenure-track job at the local university. And in the summertime, I’ll fill a backpack with snacks and a copy each of Us Weekly and The House of Seven Gables, and I’ll put on my flippy floppies and take my scooter down to the beach. And we’ll putter around, me and my scooter, and life will be grand.

We don’t own a scooter, but we’ve rented one for past weekend beach vacays in Rhodie. And now we’re thinking: Yes, we should probably-absolutely-definitely rent one for our BSD. We can leave the church and hop on one (shared) and scootaroo down to the reception. I can picture the drive already: It’s a twenty-minute, very boring, one-lane-suburban-road-type drive. Houses. Peekaboo views of the ocean until the road opens up into ‘Gansett, with sweeping beach views and our reception venue ahead of us.

I love it. We’ve fixed the idea in our minds, in case the weather cooperates enough for us to pull this off. I won’t even mind the helmet head.

Your car, his car, limo, trolley, horse? What kind of transportation are you using on your wedding day?

A friend of mine got married this past summer and they took a scooter from the church to the reception. In fact, the scooter was her something blue! They didn’t have very far to travel though. Their reception was at a super nice restaurant practically in the church parking lot.

I like the idea!

That is so, so adorable. We’re walking! I’m so excited, although I hope my dress doesn’t get too dirty……

What a fun idea!
PS: I want to be like you too, when I grow up. I’d trade Ohio for a seaside New England town any day!

um, Chips, I think you’re trying to steal my life. I’ve always dreamed of a sundrenched porch and breakfast nook, I live for hot baths, and have been begging J for a scooter as soon as we can afford one…

What fun yours will be for the wedding! Think you can coordinate with your wedding colors?

Do it! I can totally picture you scooting past the seawall and people honking and cheering you on as your dress blows in the wind!
P.S. your ideal life sounds a lot like mine but maybe I’d grab the Wall Street Journal instead of hte house of seven gables to accompany my US weekly.

We have decided to skip the formal transportation because our ceremony and reception locations are only two miles away from each other. The resort is giving us a ski shuttle bus to transport guests and then we are using my Saturn to get from place to place. It’s been with us throughout the relationship, so it fits!

I love it!

We still don’t have transportation booked (eep!)

My mother suggested we have a second line from the church to the house, but that is about 2 miles. No. Way.

Awww P Chips, that all sounds delightful! I, too, would love to move to a tiny, quiet seaside town ASAP — one where I could scooter on down to the local store for bread and orange juice on Saturday mornings. Sighhh…

My FI lived in Key West for most of his life, and he tells me this was how they got around for the most part. So jealous!!
