“And Wuv… Twooooooo Wuv”

December 17th, 2009 @ 1:43 pm by Mrs. Hamster

A gold star to anyone who can name that movie!

Man, I gotta give movie studios credit. They really know how to milk wedding scenes. Cue the emotional soundtrack, soft-focus shot of the bride walking down the aisle, and the slow pan to the groom’s teary-eyed reaction. Although I’m a total sucker for these wiles, most of my favorite wedding moments in movies are more humorous than touching. Here’s my short list:

1. Love Actually

The surprise at the end of the wedding scene in this movie delights me every time - never mind that it was arranged by the Best Man, who is in love with Kiera Knightly. But my absolute favorite moment comes at the very end of the movie, with the sweetest proposal ever (I’m not going to say any more, in case you haven’t watched the movie yet. But if you haven’t, where have you been?? You totally need to watch it). In fact, here’s a big secret - that scene makes Mr. Hammy cry every time! Shhh… don’t tell.

I’ve never been to a Louisiana wedding, but if I ever have the good fortune, I hope it will be a little like Julia Roberts’ in Steel Magnolias. A blush and bashful color scheme? An armadillo red-velvet groom’s cake? Dolly Parton? Sign me up!

3. Princess Bride

And Wuv... Twooooooo Wuv : wedding humor Princessbridegif.jpg

Okay, so the wedding scene in this movie is cut short, and Princess Buttercup is set to marry a man she despises. But the lisp of the The Impressive Clergyman—yes, that’s his formal title—is roll-on-the-floor hilarious. And if you haven’t already guessed, the title of this post was indeed uttered by the Clergyman.

What are you favorite movie wedding scenes?

Love Actually is my all time favorite movie - and was key in Mr. Q’s proposal to me! So, even though it wasn’t the wedding scene, my favorite part is when Mark professes his unrequited love to Juliet - “To Me, You Are Perfect”.

SO, not wedding…and in love with his best friends wife - still, my favorite scene :)

Cold Mountain. In the cabin. In the woods. Just two lovers pledging their lives to one another. So beautiful!

ditto Mrs Quiche - I have probably watched Love Actually 200 times and I cry every. time. Love Princess Bride too - the book is fun to read as well. And Father of the Bride was one of my favorite movies growing up.

I also (not so) secretly love 27 Dresses

I think it’s required by law that if you are a southern girl, you must be able to quote at least 2/3 of Steel Magnolias.

“That sanctuary looks like its been hosed down with Pepto-Bismol.”

Princess Bride and Love Actually! Ah, wonderful movies!

One of my all time favourites is the wedding scenes in Cinderella: The Slipper And The Rose. I won’t spoil the story for anyone who’s not seen it but the scene where Cinderella walks in to the Fairy Godmother’s trumpet - gets me every time!

Not really a wedding, but proposals… in Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly, when Mr. Darcy professes his love at dawn. “You have betwitched me, body and soul…”

Also When Mr. Bingley proposes — “first, I must say I have been a complete and unmitigitaed a**.” “Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!”

I love the wedding in Dan in Real Life. You only see the reception in the credits but it is exactly what I would want my wedding reception to be like.

@ Quiche: I greatly dislike Princess Bride too! And I always feel like I am the only one. :)

LOVE ACTUALLY!!! sorry, got a little excited with the caps lock there. anyway, like mrs. quiche, that movie was key in my husband’s proposal to me - at the end in the scene where Colin Firth is proposing :) totally definitely one of my top movies ever.
