Bridal Virus Cured (For Now)

December 17th, 2009 @ 4:34 pm by Mrs. Pug

So, I was looking for a hair flower, having decided that I really needed one. I had begun the search process thinking that I would use a real flower since it would be less expensive and disposable—however, my ventures into the world of Etsy soon led me to other conclusions.

After perusing about a few hundred options on Etsy, I found some deco clay gardenia flowers—I loved the detail and the “real” look of them. They would also stand up better than a real flower. I almost bought this gorgeous one for $23 from Blissful Moments.

This one sells for $20 (by DK Designs, whose clay flowers were used at Mrs. Pineapple’s wedding, and are gorgeous–please go look now)

Oh the amnesia—I mean, I didn’t even want a fake flower in the first place because I would have no use for it after the wedding. Was I falling prey to one of those wedding mind tricks where we *need* things?

More importantly, would I rue the day I decided not to wear a hair flower on my wedding day? The answer was no, and I decided to forego the flower. Anti-climactic, huh?

Did anyone take some time to step back from a purchase and realize that they didn’t need it?

Yes- thank God! I’ve been tempted to buy everything. From hair flowers to garters (a year and a half before the wedding!!!) to, well, really, almost anything, it’s so tempting to go nuts wedding shopping.

There are too many pretty things! I actually need to teach myself to step back more often….

no! but i did go with a cheaper hair flower, after looking at all those beautiful, yet expensive ones on etsy. i went with a $5 flower from a store in the mall, like claires, and it’s just as pretty.

Not yet…I’m hoping I start to take that approach soon though! I spent WAY too much on my shoes, and you can’t even see them under my dress!

I love the flower you’re considering!

Ha, yes, I often convince myself I “need” things like garters and crafting supplies.

Oh yes, this wedding business thing has definitely been major justification for me to “need” a whole ton of things.

Oh, what a hard decision that must have been. Those are really gorgeous flowers. The pug must be devastated, too.

No worries — you can use that ’saved’ $ to buy yet another pair of ‘critical’ bridal shoes!

My sister, who is into the bling, decided i “needed” a tiara. I had a weekend of searching Etsy for tiaras I liked and found a few way over budget (what else is new). Then I looked at bridal magazines (they are useful for something) and covered all the brides’ headpieces with my finger to see if they looked better with or without a hairpiece/tiara. Guess what? I thought they looked better au natural every time!

love me some clay flowers! If you change your mind I’d love to *attempt* to make one for you?! Never tried a gardenia, but I could give it a try!

$23 for a flower? I think the price is a little….well way overexergerated though the flower looks nice. Im sure there is a cheaper place to get them.
