Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

I had to hold off on writing this post for a while, since the dresses I ordered back in early September were backordered a few months. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s first talk about how the dresses were selected!

I started looking at BM dresses back in about April, not long after we got engaged. Fast forward to about mid-August when I knew the time was ripe for getting summery dresses at a good price during the end of the season sales. Unfortunately, so many of the cute dresses I’d found last spring were no longer available, or only available in obscure sizes. So, I started the search again, looking for cute purple dresses that were around $150 or under. (Mr. Cola and I are paying for the BM dresses, hair and makeup, and the groomsmens’ tuxes.)

Luckily, the one dress that had been my favorite back in spring was still available—a Calvin Klein satin dress in medium purple, from Nordstrom.com. Actually, a lot of my dress search took place on the Nordstrom and Macy’s websites, since I didn’t see the point in paying $100 extra for a dress, just because it was labeled a “bridesmaid dress”. After enlisting my MOH/Sister to narrow it down to four choices from the multitude of options I’d found, I set up a Google Docs survey on our wedding website, with pictures and info on the four choices, and let the choice fall into the hands of my ladies.

Here were their choices (follow links below for picture sources):

As it turns out, they agreed on Dress #1—the satin Calvin Klein that I’d had my eye on since April, which was good and bad. It was good because I know they’ll all look HOT in that dress, but bad because I was (selfishly!) going to get it for myself if they didn’t pick it. Oh well, it all worked out for the best, because I found other dress options for myself that I’ll share in my next post.

My sister/MOH just sent me pics of her wearing her bridesmaid dress that just arrived, so I can share it with you all now, too! Doesn’t she look super cute?

Her hair is covering the pretty gathered straps a bit in these pictures, but with a cute updo at the wedding, they will be more visible.

Did you let your ladies have a say in which dress they would wear in your wedding?

i agree, #1 is a great choice! and i think that’s so funny for you to admit that you were hoping to get it if they didn’t choose it (you still can, by the way!).

that’s super nice of you to pay for your bridesmaids’ attire and makeup/hair–i love it when people make that gesture (if they can).

The dress looks great! I bet they could wear it again, too! It’s a very classy dress.

My MOH was actually the one who showed me a dress as an idea for a bridesmaid dress… and I loved it! It was important for me to pick a dress that everyone liked and they could wear again. You definitely accomplished both with your choice! Good job :)

I love this dress for bmaids! I considered it in brown for my girlies. Nice choice! And who says you can’t have it now? Order one! I got the same dress as my girls, just in a diff color, because I loved it so much!

Those are SO cute. I am still in agony over what to do about our bridesmaids dresses. I have cried 2 times already, no joke. I’m too much of a people-pleaser.

I think I’ll just steal your BM dresses. :p Ok, I kidding. But still, they’re amazing.

I LOVE the back on the dress that you chose. It’s so unique…although I wonder what they’ll do for a bra? Does it go down as far as it appears in the picture?

@ Pudding, good question, I’ll have to ask. I know my sis was concerned before they selected a dress, and I suggested the 100-Way bra from Victoria’s Secret (which will work with most every dress/strap/strapless combo), but haven’t heard anything since they got the dresses.

@ Pretzel, LOL, it was just for the color that I liked that dress, I swear ;)

yup. with only two ladies by my side, i’m not gonna make them dress alike. i plan on giving them a color and letting them go wild.

or, not too wild. i have to be very specific with my sister. give her an inch…lol

@ Pudding, the dress goes down a little bit less on me than the picture shows. It was difficult to get a picture without my hot pink bra showing in the front (and I’m sure it was hanging out in the back). Bra shopping time!

Purple is my favorite color so you caught my eye here! Yes, my first choice is #1 CK and I also liked #2. Both are fabulous and they can easily wear these dresses again. You did great!

I would have picked either #1 or #2, so I’m glad you got the first one! I wish we would have had the guys buy tuxes, they ended up spending more to rent them then buy them :(
