Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Tick Tock Tutorial

December 17th, 2009 @ 4:14 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

If you’ve been following along, then you know all about my table number epiphany.

I promised you a tutorial after I fine tuned the clocks (heh), and I’m happy to say that the kinks are officially out. Feel free to sub the clock face for whatever fits your wedding best; buttons or a small doily would be cute.

Here we go!

What you’ll need:

  • Scissors
  • Cardstock (I used white and aqua)
  • Glue stick
  • Hot glue gun
  • Bamboo skewer
  • Ribbon
  • Clock stamp (or buttons, or doily, etc.)

Stamp clock onto white cardstock. The stamps I bought have detachable hands, so I can customize the times. If you’re like me, make sure you consult with someone just to be sure that the long hand is for minutes, and the short hand is for hours. I asked Mr. Rainbow this three times, and he still loves me. I picked a winner.

Cut aqua cardstock lengthwise into 4″ strips and accordion fold. A good rule of thumb is to make your pinwheel one inch wider than whatever you’re sticking on it- my clock is about 3″, so I’m using 4″ strips. This part probably would have gone faster had I had an actual paper cutter, so if you have one, use it. And then send it to me.

Fold the accordion folded paper in half, width-wise. To get a decent fold, push down on it with something heavy. I used the acrylic block from my stamp. Glue the 2 center edges together, and gently fan out the outer edges. This will create a half circle. You’ll need two of these for one pinwheel.

Once you’ve got the second one made, glue the edges of each together, forming one pinwheel. Hot glue the clock face to one side. There’s not really a “front”, so just use which ever side is prettier.

Then, take your bamboo skewer, break it to the correct height for whatever you’re putting it in, and wrap it with ribbon. Hot glue the ribbon to the skewer at the top, then once you’ve worked your way down, glue the middle point, then the bottom.

Hot glue the skewer to the back of your pinwheel, in the bottom fold. Make sure it’s the very bottom fold, or it will sit crooked. I also added our monogram on the back to cover up the back center of the pinwheel, but you can leave it blank, or add whatever you want.

Et voila! Our very Alice in Wonderland tick tock table numbers!

Price Breakdown:

  • Clock stamps: $13.00 (use a 40% coupon, I didn’t have one at the time)
  • Aqua cardstock: $3 (for 4 sheets, this will make 6 pinwheels)
  • Ribbon: $4

Total Cost: $20 (Approx. $3 per table number, not too shabby!)
