Honeymoon Recap Slackers for 400, Alex.

Question: This Weddingbee blogger set sail on a cruise and left you hanging with a story of a rocking ship.

Answer: Who is Mrs. Deviled Egg?

Yep, that’s me! Our honeymoon at sea was smooth sailing until our third night. We had spent the day in Cozumel, enjoyed dinner with our table mates, checked out the pool party and were settling into bed. There was lots of wind and the boat was a rockin’. But, the Enchantment of the Seas started to shake a little more violently than we were prepared to experience as we inched our way to Belize. The reason?

An earthquake. A freaking magnitude-7.1 earthquake off the shore of Hondoras and our ship was a sitting duck about 30 miles away. We were forced to take a little detour from our projected path because of tsunami fears. Yikes! I’ve never experienced an earthquake before this, but I’m sure as heck glad I was on the boat at the time and not on land. It was a little scary feeling the waves move the boat. I’m a big wuss when it comes to natural disasters, so this kind of freaked me out. There was some damage in Belize and some of the planned excursions were canceled because of it. Lucky for us, our snorkeling trip was still on.

We knew that we wanted to do a shore excursion before we set sail, but there were so many choices. Go rock climbing? Explore caves? Be beach bums? Rent quads, scooters, jet skis or bikes? There were lots of choices! After hearing about the awesome reefs and aquatic life in the area, we decided that snorkeling was the way to go.

Our trip would take us away from the Belize City port to Rendezvous Caye. We joined about 40 people from our cruise on the Reef Rocket, a speed boat that would take us to our snorkeling destination in about 30 minutes while traveling at speeds up to 50 MPH.

The guide telling us about the excursion and our boat before we boarded.

Hold on to your hat, Mr. DE! This boat is really movin’!

We really didn’t know where we were going, other than to a place we could snorkel. We passed several coves and beaches, but couldn’t believe our eyes as we approached our destination.

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 07603

Are we going there? To that cute little piece of paradise?

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 07604

Yes we are! Woo hoo!

The reef rocket dropped its anchor and we waded our way to shore. Secluded island? Check! Palm trees? Check! Hut? Caribbean music? Rum Punch? Triple check! Port-A-Potty? Check that, too! This place was perfect! For not being a big beach lover, I quickly fell in love with this place. How could you not? This little island was what I’ve always pictured when you play the “If you were stranded on a deserted island” game.

Upon arrival, we all were fitted with the mandatory snorkeling and safety gear and given the how-to snorkel speech. Ready to explore the reef?

Rocking my sexy snorkel gear.

A waterproof disposable camera is a must for snorkeling excursions!

Barracuda straight ahead!

It is hard to tell, but there are lots of little fishy-wishies in this photo.

Some of the colorful coral we swam over.

There’s that barracuda again, lurking in the shadows.

And there is Mr. DE’s foot!

Yeah, this is HOT! Ha ha!

We spent about an hour out in the water watching the fish swim and were given about another hour to enjoy the island. It was as if we stepped into a postcard or a computer screensaver.

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 07702

I kind of wanted to stay forever.

Looking at this picture, you can almost feel the hot sand squishing between your toes.

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 07704

Can you hear the sound of the waves crashing in the distance?

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 078

And taste the salty water in the air?

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 07705

Sense the warm breeze blowing through your hair?

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Img 07801

Feel the warm sun kiss your shoulders as Caribbean music streams from the nearby tiki pavilion?

Honeymoon at Sea: Un-Belize-able! : wedding honeymoon Phoner

Hear the sound of the phone ring?

What?!? Do I have to stop daydreaming and get back to work? Aw, nuts!

Can they at least be coconuts?

The snorkeling and the chance to spend time on such a perfect little island paradise is what made our Belize trip so un-Belize-able! (Mr. DE was saying that word all the time before, during and after our cruise.) This part of our honeymoon made our honeymoon. It was the best place.

When our island adventure came to an end, we took a ride back to port on the Reef Rocket and waited for our tender to take us back to our cruise ship.

Our evening included eating another fabulous dinner on board, watching a cheesy, yet entertaining magic show, enjoying a late-night swim in one of the ship’s pools and an even later night snack run (mmm… pizza).

We went to bed knowing that our next day would be our last on the ship. Our honeymoon was coming to an end.

Miss something? Catch up!

That seriously looks like paradise. It reminds me of a stop in Aruba where we did the same thing - boat to a man made island for snorkeling.

OMG — my husband and I were on our honeymoon on the coast of Belize that same week! That earthquake woke us up and scared us half to death. In our sleepy state, it took a good 10 minutes to figure out what the heck had just happened.

Our scuba trip the next day got cancelled, but we were able to go the day after that.

But yes, Belize was AMAZING.

Glad you had a great time in Belize, cuz I live there!! YAY. That little island is called Goff’s Caye, I love going there!! and that earthquake was such a freak occurrence, it shook me out of my bed…lol well, not literally, but it was confusing to wake up in the middle of the night with your house shaking!
You got some nice pics, I would never have stayed long enough by the barracuda to take a pic! lol
