About Mrs. Scissors

…then we would totally use Obsessed with You by The Orion Experience as our first dance song. It is our song. It’s awesome, super fun, and I know we’ll have it on our playlist for the reception.

We might just wait until people have a few more cocktails in ’em to play it.

Anybody else have some “couple” songs that are not exactly first-dance appropriate?

Your song makes me want to get up and go dancing around the house!
FI and I met at a club, dancing to “Gold Digger” and “My Humps”. SO not appropriate. We’re going with “Better Together” by Jack Johnson for our first dance.

I absolutely love “Harwich” by Avery, but if you actually read into the lyrics, they’re a little sexual. I think we’ll just play it later on in the night when people are a little more loosened up.

LOVE this song! I totally wanted to include it in our wedding, if not for the non-grandma-appropriate lyrics.

LOL… this is really cute. I’m a plus sized bride, and we thought about using part of “Big and Chunky” by Will.I.Am (from Madagascar 2). I thought it was an really funny idea, but I think it would offend too many people. :(

Oh I love it!! No, it’s not a first dance song, but I could definitely see it as a break-out karaoke number that you could do later in the evening to each other!!

I absolutely LOVE the song “Crazy Bitch” by Buckcherry…I keep joking that I want that song to be my entrence song - but yeaaaah I’m gonna have like 8 ministers at my wedding!!! (long story short, I grew up going to the Salvation Army church and my family is friends with so many ministers since they move around a lot).

Yeah my mom totally vetoed the song…i’m hoping to play it later on in the night when a lot of people have left but we shall see. :)

It’s such a cute song, and if it didn’t have that one line, it would be neat as a first-dance song.

i love it! definitely wouldn’t be appropriate for a first dance song if kids and grandparents were around, but play it later on!

Great song! Use it if you can get away with it!

There are several people that will be in attendance at our wedding that mean there will be no mention of “sex”, “getting it on”, “humps”,”lumps”, “big butts”, or any variant of those.

Darn conservative family members!

Ours is “The Origin of Love” from the “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” soundtrack. Some couples might have trouble getting away with it because:

*The song mentions sex.
*The song implies a VERY different origin of the human race (and of human sexuality) than most major religions would accept.
*The song is from a movie about a transgendered singer, and most people still see the transgendered as freaks.

That said…we don’t think anyone will notice the sex reference, we’re not religious, and the only intolerant person who might attend (my grandma) has gotten used to her transgendered neighbor. We’re using the song :)

The only song that is really special to both FI and I has “hell” in the title and includes the lyrics “your legs spread like a filthy magazine.” We’re still looking around.

Our song is Ani DiFranco’s “As Is.” We definitely thought about using it for the first dance, but thought people might wonder about lines like “Just give up and admit you’re an a-hole.” We went with Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” instead. :)
