Mrs. Pug's Picture
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CA Age and Occupation: 33, Lawyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, ditto Engagement Date: July 2008 Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay About Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
About Mrs. Pug

Last time I posted about my search for shoes and my purchase of 3.5″ heels despite the fact that I swore off heels a few years ago. So you’re thinking, ‘you dumbass.’ But wait! I *did* learn a little something through my shoe trials and tribulations. I know it is almost a given that my Tahari slingbacks will hurt me after a few hours into the wedding. So I began a search for comfortable flip-flops that I could change into.

I wanted white flip flops (keep it simple) and a tall heel (at least 3″) so my dress hem wouldn’t drag on the ground. This search was a bit obstructed by inflated “wedding prices” (not many people besides brides want white flip flops with a heel above 1″) and a shape that did not do much for the comfort aspect.

For example, these following flips are cute, but the shape of the arch is still curved at an angle that I might as well be wearing regular heels. In addition, they cost $30 or more, whereas I was really hoping to find something around $20.

Eventually, I found these from mydivascloset for $17:

These have an elevated platform for the whole foot (only a slight arch), and are under $20.

Smart, eh? Well, it doesn’t stop there. It might rain the day of our wedding (our locale is known for that during March), so I also got these:

Yeah, not so dumb right? Or, maybe you say—I could have just foregone the heels altogether and gotten the flip flops, and your shoe expenses would be half of what it is. You have a point, but I am too busy hobbling away in my hot pink patent leather peep toes.

Do you have back-up shoes for comfort or weather purposes?

I would break my foot if I wore those heels…more power to you! I’m going barefoot at our wedding…i’m barefoot 99% of the time anyway so FI thought it was only appropriate I be barefoot at the wedding.

I was looking for the same thing! I ended up finding white platform RocketDog brand flip flops at DSW for $15. They don’t have too bad of an arch, but more than the Vacation-S you found. I’m glad to finally find a bride that realizes you have to find a comfy pair of dancing shoes with the same height heel as your ceremony shoes, to keep your dress from dragging!

I have a confession.
I am totally going to be a rainboot-bride. I came up with the idea a long time ago because 1) it gives me an excuse to spend a hunk of dough on some fabulous boots 2)FI is a farmer and a firefighter, so it just kinda fits. 3) the wedding is March, so it’s practical :)
Now of course, I’ve seen about a dozen photos of brides with rainboots. But I’m so excited!

Got my flip flops at Target on clearance for $5 way back in September. I glued some clear glass beds on the straps (did that to my hair comb to match). Can’t wait to wear them with my neon blue toe nail polish :)

I got those exact mydivascloset platform flipflops for our wedding, and they were PERFECT. You will not regret it. I then also wore them to dinner with little sundresses several times during the honeymoon, which looked a little silly, but made me feel like I was still a bride ;-)

Personally, I bought my white flip flops as my original bridal shoe. I just can’t imagine being uncomfortable while getting married!

I’m gonna have back-up rainboots! I would love to jump around in some puddles on our wedding day. (If it does rain, and I do freak out, you have permission to say, “I told you so, Scizz.”

I have ordered those very same flip flops for a bride - she had never worn heels in her life and was scared to start then, so we ordered those and I added rhinestones, ribbon, and conchos to match her colors (It was a navy and white country wedding)

The bride was very happy with the shoes and said they were very comfortable.

I had navy blue shoes for the wedding, and I wanted Navy Blue flip-flops too - Old Navy to the rescue! They were about $7, but are really summer-cute and I’ve been able to wear them several times after so that’s even better!

I had some back-up flip flops for the reception. I was glad I did–my feet were hurting!

I’m a size 5 so I couldn’t order those from mydivascloset so I ordered my shoes from Michelle on Etsy
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShoePrincess
I sent her a picture of my dress and she custom designed my white platform flip flops to the dress. It came out amazing!!!! (She didn’t have a size 5 but it turns out the size 6 she had were the same length as current flip flops I wear so I knew her sizes ran small) She also donates a portion of the sale to the Leukemia Research Foundation.
